Owner description: The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a monumental church devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Construction began in 1882, based on plans drawn up by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, and Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to continue the project in 1883. The Temple has always been an expiatory church, built only from donations. As Gaudi said: "The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the site as a minor basilica.

“Awesome and unique in the whole world”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

The basilica is unlike anything else you will ever see! Whether you are "religious" or not, this stunning architectural marvel is a must-see. It is accessible for those who may have mobility issues and children will enjoy it, especially the fabulous sculptures both inside and out. Be sure not to miss the museum in the basement, as it is one of the best parts of the visit. Some tips: skip the additional ticket to the towers, as it is expensive and you can't see enough to make it worthwhile. Buy your tickets ahead of time, as this is the most popular attraction in Barcelona. The gift shops are fun and their staffs extremely helpful. We easily found people who spoke English.

“It's good”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

Very interesting place from an architectural perspective. I realise it is a work in progress and can only assume that if and when it is finished it will be very special. The down side is the construction noise detracts from the peace and serenity. "How's the serenity?" Average when work is under way. Visually - Stunning. Worth a visit? For sure. We got there at 910am on a Thursday morning and joined a que about 200 metres long. but, don't despair, we were inside by 945. I would suggest booking online and choosing an entry and tower access time that suits. We didn't go up the tower as first available time was 1pm. But we enjoyed the Basilica and museum anyway.

This is a MUST see for anyone traveling to Barcelona. Take a guided tour and the guide will explain all the significant features of this unique church. If you book a tour you will avoid the long queue. I can say no more about this place, you must see it yourself to appreciate it.

“Breathtaking Structure”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

Must see this in Barcelona. 100 years in the making, a cathedral unlike any other and we've seen many in Europe. Gaudi' was some kind of genius, with a quirky twist on design. (Check out the lighted parachute with Jesus descending.....)
