Owner description: The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a monumental church devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Construction began in 1882, based on plans drawn up by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, and Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to continue the project in 1883. The Temple has always been an expiatory church, built only from donations. As Gaudi said: "The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the site as a minor basilica.

“See it to believe it!”

There is so much "hype" about this church/cathedral that I was prepared to be disappointed. I was not! This is truly a magnificent monument. I have experienced few architectural sites with this kind of power. It is breathtaking. As interesting as the outside facade is, the inside will leave you speechless. Don't miss it.

“Go up the spires for a good view”

Has to be the best organic church building on earth. It might even finish in 2030. See it before you die.

“What a structure!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

The building is a masterpiece of Antonio Gaudi. The construction has been started around 100 years ago and was still being continued. The only boring thing is that we had to stay around 2 hours in the queue to get inside. I strongly advise you to buy your tickets online prior to your getting to this place.

“Pre book your tickets in advance”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

We saved ourself a 2hr wait by prebooking our tickets in advance.
Recommend renting an audio guide as it was very informative.
We went up Nativity tower which was interesting but not for anyone claustrophobic. It gave good views over the city though.

“A grand structure.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

The church is truly a great piece of architecture but since it is not complete you get the feel that you are really in a construction site! (and it is one). However it is a must see as they plan to complete it only in a couple of decades (yes you read that correctly) more!
