Owner description: The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a monumental church devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Construction began in 1882, based on plans drawn up by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, and Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to continue the project in 1883. The Temple has always been an expiatory church, built only from donations. As Gaudi said: "The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the site as a minor basilica.

“Incredible”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

I'm in awe every time I visit. It's a truly magical place. It's true that it's a bit expensive to get in and sometimes the queue to get inside may look daunting, but trust me it's worth it! The light and colours inside and the architecture is just stunning. Also make sure to climb to the top of the tower, the view is incredible! I like to think that I'll keep visiting every year, to check on its progress. It's going to be amazing when it's finished!

“Less than its reputation”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

This is a world famous site, associated with a world famous architect/visionary. Hence everyone must visit it when in Barcelona, and no one is supposed to express anything less than glowing praise. But the truth is, we found it rather disappointing. It seemed more weird than inspiring, and surprisingly spare, even chilling inside. Though associated with Gaudi, most of the church has actually been done by others, whose styles diverge greatly from Gaudi. And the lines of visitors are ridiculous. Be absolutely certain to buy tickets on-line before you go. I cannot stress that enough. Without advance tickets, you'll have to stand half a day in the Barcelona sun just to get in and dig elbows with those already inside.

“Architectural Masterpiece”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

The church was Gaudi's life work. This is evident in the level of detail and the architectural splendor both inside and out. When visiting try to get there early to avoid the lines or buy your tickets online. The audio guide is very good and offers nice explanations. I didn't go up to the tower, since you have to wait longer and it costs extra and here are plenty of other places in Barcelona offering magnificent views from above. Overall, a must see in Barcelona.

“Magical..”
Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

Although still under construction this is a truly amazing work of art. So much detail, so humbling to be able to go inside. Words cannot explain. If you can, book online as the queues are really long. We did however notice that in the evenings it was a lot quieter. We went after 5 and were in the queue for around 20 mins. Will definitely visit in 2026 when its all done.
