Owner description: The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a monumental church devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Construction began in 1882, based on plans drawn up by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, and Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to continue the project in 1883. The Temple has always been an expiatory church, built only from donations. As Gaudi said: "The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the site as a minor basilica

This experience was one of our favorites out of our 10 day trip through France and Spain. La Sagrada Familia is extremely stunning in its inception, construction, intricacy, and really every little detail about it. I know most people describe it as a place that you don't have to be religious to visit, however I felt that it was the MOST spiritual place one could ever visit. Biblical references and worship drip from every wall you look at and it was incredible. I can't believe that Gaudi conceived this place without computers and the technology that we have today.

Point being, visit this place. It's incredible and you will not regret it. As others mentioned, buy your tickets in advance and skip that huge line. Also, get the audio tour. It is worth it to learn about the place.

Totally worth the visit - even if you're not into churches or buildings. TIP - buy your ticket online to jump the cue that wraps around the outside of the building!

When in Barcelona Spain you do not want to miss this sight. We have been to Barcelona a few times over the past years leaving on cruises. We have never taken the time to see what is in Barcelona. This time we took an extra day and we are so glad we did. We spent the day looking at all the wonderful buildings and strolled down the main market. However of everything we saw the Basilica unfinished built by Gaudi is amazing. It is so hard to describe. The front and back represent Life and Death. With all the ornate and curves and design it is a marvel. They are still building on it today and plan to have it done by 2025 Gaudi's 100 years after his death from being run over. You will see area that look like it has been cleaned however they are the new areas they are working on. You can either admire the outside or buy tickets to go in. If you plan to go in they open at 9 AM most days so check the schedule.

This is a must see while in Barcelona! The building is simply amazing. The line for tickets was long and hot but it was worth the wait. So if you can pre-order- definitely do so. We wished we had. My husband was the the only one of us that purchased the recorded guided tour but he shared the highlights with my two sons and I.
