Owner description: The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a monumental church devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Construction began in 1882, based on plans drawn up by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, and Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to continue the project in 1883. The Temple has always been an expiatory church, built only from donations. As Gaudi said: "The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the site as a minor basilica.

One of the main reasons I wanted to go to Barcelona was to see this in person. It is even better than I thought. Worth the small fee to go inside. It´s a true icon. get there early to avoid crowds and queues.

“must see if you are in barcelona”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

I have visited many cathedrals in various capitals in the world, but this building Gaudi hit where everything really. What a great structure. also the legend is still alive because the cathedral still being phased out, and new 'old' parts go together.

Mind boggling that anyone would actually build Gaudi's vision. It's remarkable and unlike anything else.

“Go early”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

Stunning and so pleased we queued to get in, even though it was over an hour! We were staying in apartments just opposite and the question formed at least an hour before opening but at mid day would be right around the building and taken 2 or 3 hours to get in

“Amazing & Unique, Even better than I remembered!”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

Its been 10 years since I last visited the Sagrada Familia and I'm really glad I paid to go inside as it was even more amazing inside than before with more of the church completed. This is really a unique and one of a kind church which I would recommend visiting. Buy tickets online in advance to avoid the ticket line, save a bit of money, and be able to walk straight in (go through the online ticket line).
