Until we visited this museum I did not have an appreciation for what an incredibly talented artist Picasso was. The exhibit shows his work from about age 12 until his late years (1957 or so). His skill was innate and included many mediums - pottery, painting and drawing.Over the years he was influenced by many other artists (Lautrec, Dega and others) and this can be seen in his works.
Seeing his work was very inspiring for my wife who has taken up painting in the past two years. Seeing how important his sketches and studies were had a significant impact on her own learning. For Picasso it seems that capturing the image was the easy part. It was his ability to give an interpretation to the mood or rhythm that is impressive. There are many examples where his figures are quite indistinct and yet he captures the essence of the situation with colour and shading.
We spent two hours in the museum using the audio guide and enjoyed every minute of the experience. We learned a lot about his life.More
