Owner description: The Museu Picasso in Barcelona is a key reference for understanding the formative years of Pablo Picasso. The genius of the young artist is revealed through the 4,251 works that make up the permanent collection. Furthermore, the Museu Picasso, opened in 1963, also reveals his deep relationship with Barcelona: an intimate, solid relationship that was shaped in his adolescence and youth, and continued until his death. The Museum is very rich in regard to work from the formative years in the life of the artist; it is practically exhaustive up to the Blue Period. The Museum also houses an important representation of works from 1917, and the series Las Meninas (1957) as well as a comprehensive print collection.

Unless you're an art history student, teacher, artist, etc. you probably won't think it euros well spent. Good selection of early period works, but a little dour in atmosphere and general visitors might need more background context.

Don't expect a full-blown presentation of Picasso's life's work. This museum focuses almost exclusively on the early work he did in Barcelona before moving permanently to Paris. It does that very well. The audio guide is extremely helpful, though not always in synch with the current layout of exhibits. Do buy tickets in advance from their online site--there's no extra charge and you breeze right on in past those waiting in line. Don't worry if you can't print off the receipt. Just copy down the locator number and the other numbers from the screen and you'll be fine.

This is a wonderful museum to see the development of Picasso, as it features many of his early works. Great room devoted to his interpretation of Las Meninas. Plan on at least one or two hours for the basics.

I thought it would be a museum with some famous paintings bearing in mind the admission fee of 11 EUR (the same as in Louvre). The collection is extremely limited, showing how Picasso's technique was developing and changing through years. In addition you can visit a small hall with Picasso ceramics work. We spend less then a half hour there, all the time the building was filled with a strange sewerage-like stink.

I agree it was a long line and it was raining while we stood in the line but I still thought it was worth the wait. How often can you see originals of Picasso in your lifetime? I and my wife enjoyed the exhibit and it was enjoyable to see the transformation of his work over time. I would definitely say this is a must see in Barcelona. I saw a display in Vienna of Picasso and this one is much larger.
