This is a must see for all visiting Barcelona! The main street of dining and entertainment in the city. We visited previously in 2010, and a lot has changed since then! There used to be a lot of street performers who lined both sides of the street - however, there are a lot fewer performers now and they only appear in the last section of Las Ramblas, down towards the Port. This is a bit disappointing, however it does mean you can move a lot more easily instead of having to push through crowds of people.

There are lots of shops and street vendors selling lots of souvenirs, and a wide variety of dining options from the traditional tapas restaurants to general fast food outlets. There is something for everyone! Make sure you venture off Las Ramblas to see the small side streets and old squares which are hidden from view.

Top Tip - Keep bags / wallets safe, this is a breeding ground for pick pockets. If you are cautious, there is nothing to worry about!

This place sees loads of tourists and you can be assured to be lost in the crowd and life here. Lined with shops, restaurants and historical monuments, you can spend a great deal of time here just exploring. You can step into the main street or pick a smaller street in any direction and be assured to come across many wonderful surprises. Beware: Amongst the many shops here are the ones run by Indians. They might have everything and at a good price, but they cant deliver the authentic feel of Spanish culture and the true spirit of Barcelona!

We walked down Las Ramblas a couple of times during our week-long visit to Barcelona.
I think I'd built my hopes up too high for it as when I was researching prior to my trip 'Las Ramblas' appeared in pretty much all of the 'must see!' lists of attraction in the city. I don't know what I was expecting but......It's a huge touristy pedestrianised street. That's really what it is; I felt like a tourist among a heard of tourists. It's full of stereotypical souvenir shops, food vendors and bars. I must say I really enjoyed seeing the street performers though; they were few in number but their costumes were truly fantastic! To escape the hustle and bustle of Las Ramblas try visiting the brilliant Mercat de la Boqueria or the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter (both VERY close by).

We visited Barcelona for 3 days and obviously walked through Las Ramblas both during the day and at night. It is a very nice walk full of interesting people, stores, local art. You can stop for a drink, but be aware that you might pay a high price since it´s such a popular spot. Don´t miss the market to grab a bite and have some beer or wine. It is definitevely a place to visit while in Barcelona.
