It was good with some narrow streets and old architecture. However, unlike Madrid, there isn't a lot to do in the gothic area except for looking around.

Typical of what you will find in other old mediterranean cities. Little winding streets open to plazas. Small shops and artists everywhere. A twist though is that there are some very modern artworks in some of the ancient plazas, which makes it fun and surprising.

This part of town is really beautiful to just walk around in. Full of delicious tapas bars it's worth spending an afternoon walking around, enjoying the sights and secrets hidden round every corner and just seeing what you can find!

The Gothic quarter was a great surprise for us when visiting Barcelona. Wandering around is great fun and a fantastic way to discover restaurants and wine bars.

Wile there are a number of groups of young guys selling drugs (note the red beer cans!), they seem harmless enough as it is a busy area with many tourists.

The charm of the narrow streets and countless small bars and restaurants is definitely worth a visit. We stumbled on one bar with great live music (jazz) and and an incredible arabic / tapas restaurant neither of which we will forget!
