Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: The city's first gastronomical tapas tour, The Barcelona Taste is about food. And lots of it! On this 2-3 hour food tour we stop in 3-4 small food establishments in either the famous Gothic or the lovely Gracia neighborhoods of Barcelona. Our venues range from high-quality specialty shops to home-style tapas restaurants, each one with its own scrumptious specialties for you to taste. A knowledgeable and very friendly guide will safely lead you through this labyrinth of a neighborhood, all the while sharing stories about Barcelona life, food, and history. You will enjoy all the cuisine, and, due to the small size of the group, you will also enjoy a more personal, relaxed experience.

We were a group of eight friends and it was unanimous - we thoroughly enjoyed the Barcelona Taste tour with Jo and Joe. Being our first visit to Barcelona, it was lovely strolling through the Gothic neighborhood and getting a glimpse into the non-tourist cafes. Jo and Joe entertained us with stories and history of the city and the cafes we visited. It is obvious that they truly enjoy living in Barcelona and sharing their world with others. We found each stop totally different, and had fun trying all the different tapas. My husband's only disappointment was that he never got one of those unique hot peppers. After a few mishaps all of us "somewhat" mastered the seltzer bottle technique! I would highly recommend that you include the Barcelona Taste as a "must do" when you visit Barcelona.

Our guides (Jo and Joe) took a genuine interest in showing us a side of Barcelona which we never would have discovered - plus some great dishes that we wouldn't have tried otherwise. Our evening consisted of a pleasant stroll throught the streets of the old section of town with periodic stops at a variety of cheese, wine and tapas establishments. The significance of each stop/establishment was explained - including some quirky specialty dishes from several other regions of Spain ( the wine & cola combo was particularly interesting). Frankly, this is not about how many tapas plates you get per Euro spent, but rather a more genuine immersion into the cultural side of the city, gaining a greater understanding of the life style of the residents (the locals were out in force at our tapas stops) - and in that respect, there is considerable value. After a few days of the Ramblas, we were delighted with the change....and wished we had done it on the front end of our visit.

We went on this tour on our first night in Barcelona and had a very good time with the Jo's, our very friendly and insightful guides. It's a great introduction to the local cuisine and the Gothic quarter. And, Jo was fantastic enough to give us a map so we could return to the restaurants we visited , as well as a list of additional restaurants tailored to our requests. Also appreciate that hey were accommodating to food preferences. We did think the cost was a bit steep, and the weak dollar to euro didn't help that. But, we did enjoy the splurge.

My wife and I had a great time with Jo. We tried things we would never have eaten on our own. We had some great drinks like Vermouth and my favorite the Clara. We can't forget the famous basque cider too. Jo gave us some lessons on history and architecture of Barcelona and made it a very enjoyable tour. I would highly recommend it.

First off let me say our host's, Jo and Joe were great and full of information.

However, the off the beaten path Tapas Bars we dined at were less than inviting. For 150 Euro's per couple, I could have gone to 5 Tapas Bars and eaten like a king. The "Off the beaten path" Tapas bars were clean but the food was tasteless and at one bar in particular, inedible. I would venture to say that the food and drinks per couple came to maybe 40 Euros. Leaving 110 Euro profit for our hosts. Good work if you can get it for 2 hours-3 hours and you drink for free. I'm afraid we got taken on this one.
