Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: The city's first gastronomical tapas tour, The Barcelona Taste is about food. And lots of it! On this 2-3 hour food tour we stop in 3-4 small food establishments in either the famous Gothic or the lovely Gracia neighborhoods of Barcelona. Our venues range from high-quality specialty shops to home-style tapas restaurants, each one with its own scrumptious specialties for you to taste. A knowledgeable and very friendly guide will safely lead you through this labyrinth of a neighborhood, all the while sharing stories about Barcelona life, food, and history. You will enjoy all the cuisine, and, due to the small size of the group, you will also enjoy a more personal, relaxed experience.

We spent a very enjoyable time with Jo. Forget the Ramblas and head for the tapas in the Gothic quarter. Great company, food and recommendations meant we got the best from our short stay.

We were only in Barcelona for a very short time and wanted to jam in as much as possible. Doing the Barcelona Taste food tour on our first night was the best decision we have made this trip! Joe was a great host who passionately showed us around his city and introduced us to some scrumptious food (we will never forget those salty Catalan potatoes!)! We went to places on the tour that we would have never gone to ourselves- such as restaurants with no menus!! Joe is very knowledgeable about all things food related in Barcelona and recommended a number of places to go the next day- we went to them all and we were not disappointed! If you are visiting Barcelona you MUST do is tour- no questions! Thanks Joe!

Barcelona Taste was our first tapas tour during our 20 days in Spain......and our favorite of the total of 4 that we took. (two others in San Sebastian and one in Madrid). Joe was our Barcelona Taste Guide and helped us to understand about the food, how to order and ideas of what to drink when going to a tapas restaurant. The tour started with a great cheese store were Joe had arranged for us to try some local cheeses and a glass of wine.....the owner who is Scottish, gave us ideas on what to order in the way of cheese while in Spain. Next was a small, family owned tapas bar, not fancy at all but really good family food.....Joe picked out a selection of tapas and suggested a cider...Joe wanted us to try the pimientos de padron but the owner/chef was sold out...but...about 15 minutes later....another family member who owns nearby restaurant showed up with a bowl full and they were cooked for us! Next was a restaurant owned by two sisters and we tasted Catalan style food with a local traditional beer. The final restaurant was a place to sample lots of different desserts and a great cup of coffee.

I think what we liked best about Joe's tour was that if felt like going out with a friend for the evening. We liked that each place was so different that we all got a chance to figure out what we liked the best......actually the dessert place was so good and their regular tapas looked terrific that my husband and I went back the next two nights and sampled a different selection of great tapas.each time....

Jow was our guide on our Tapas walking tour and led us to four fantastic venues where we were able to try local Catalan foods and drinks.
Joe certainly knows his stuff and was great guiding us around the Gotic area to the various venues.
A fantastic evening.
Joe even followed up with some other restaurant suggestions for us by email later and also pointed us to the best coffee shop in Barcelona- The Federal Cafe.

This was my favorite part of our Barcelona trip. While I agree with many of the reviews that this tour would do you best at the beginning of your trip, we went on our last night in the city and we're so glad we did! Jo was our guide and we had a small group of 4 being a Tuesday night in November. Jo was entertaining and engaging and the food was delicious. I'm almost happy it was our last night because I fear we would have went back to the same places if we had had a few more days (a major no-no in my book while travelling).

I see some of the reviews call it pricey in a city where the food is pretty cheap, but you're paying for a wealth of knowledge (a nice balance of Jo's facts and tidbits amid regular conversation, and plenty of opportunities to play 20 questions with her), the opportunity to meet people from around the world (refreshing new faces when travelling with 1 other person), and a great variety of tapas. You definitely won't leave this tour still hungry (but, reflecting on other reviews, don't be afraid to eat - the 2nd stop seems to have the most food, so eat up people!).

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a fun food experience in Barcelona.
