“Fantastic place to stay”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

From the moment we walked in, the stay was perfect. Marcelo and his team made us feel really welcome in this beautiful old apartment, decorated with great taste and in a perfect location. We stayed in room 4 which was large and comfortable, and prepared with a wonderful attention to detail. The bathroom was shared, but impeccably clean and there were drinks available in the kitchen for a reasonable price. Breakfast was copious : fruit, bread, juice, cheese...and served at a reasonable time! Casa de Marcelo is a rather special place that I would recommend to anyone.

As soon as I walked through the door I felt at home, or that I was visiting a relative or friend. Just what I was looking for. The location could not be better; plenty to do and see. It was very easy to find from estancia de franco. Never had an issue with the shared bathroom, although the place was fully booked, I never felt like it was. I stayed early October so the temperature was just fine.
Will recommend to others who want to stay in the perfect location of Barcelona.

The location of this B and B is perfect- right in the middle of a really funky, happening part of town. Very close to a metro station, and 10 minutes walk to the beach. We had the balcony room looking over the street- which meant that things got a little noisy at night- helped when we shut all the shutters as advised by Marcelo. This worked great as the temperatures were pretty cool in October when we visited- but I imagine in summer the heat would be oppressive (no aircon). The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean- the bathroom suggested a sense of luxury that the room did not deliver on-but it was certainly clean and functional. The bed was not particularly large or comfortable but it was fine.

We were very disappointed with breakfast- it consisted of fruit and brown bread and jam/nutella. on one day there was ham- but it did not reappear after that.

I also felt that we were exploited for money raising in many ways- you even have to pay for a cup of tea/coffee if you make it yourself in the kitchen (which you might expect to be free given that you are paying 130 euro per night). You must pay 1 euro per page if you print anything-= again- I just felt that there were little money traps everywhere- a little more in terms of good will would have been nice given the prices we paid.

Overall, I would recommend- but I wonder has this place lost the run of itself in terms of its rates just because it has such a high rating on tripadvisor???

Easy to find from estancia de Franco. In the old town very scenic. Marcelo is very good host and helpful with suggestions. Stayed in room with shared bathroom which was ok, breakfast very good with nick making lattes that were awesome. Room might be hot in summer, no air conditioning, but ok for us at end of September. If you are tall watch your head going in the front door. Building has tons of character!

We had a great time staying at Casa de Marcelo during our stay in Barcelona. We had a room with an attached bathroom and it was very comfortable and large. The location is also very good and close to the station and the metro. Also the beach is a 15-20 minute walk away. Marcelo is extremely friendly as well. Only flip side is there is no air conditioner and given that Barcelona gets very hot in the summer, it can get a bit stuffy. Would strongly recommend the B&B to anyone going to Barcelona

I was very happy to arrive in Barcelona and to be greeted by the lovely Marcelo. I found the Casa to be very clean, stylish and comfortable, in an excellent location and with fabulous service. The light breakfast was satisfying and just enough to get one started for the day. I had a room with a shared bathroom which worked out perfectly fine. I will definitly be returning to Barcelona with my family and Casa de Marcelo will be our place to stay, a real gem! A big bonus, Cal Pep, probably one of the best tapas restaurants in Barcelona is right across the street!

Two adult couples travelling together in Barcelona after a 12 day cruise had nothing but high regard and very complimentary of our stay at Casa de Marcelo Barcelona. We stayed here three nights without any issues or complaints. Excellent B & B for the budget conscience traveler looking for a very clean facility with excellent location and exceptional service. Marcelo, Clair, Nick, and Oliver were always there to assist with our needs. We were greeted at the main entrance with assistance getting our luggage up to our room and down on our departure. Tickets were obtained for us by Marcelo for the HOHO bus and La Segrada Familia, avoiding the long wait lines. The bus stop for both the HOHO and Metro busses are only a short walk away. Many good bars and restaurants in the neighborhood and just outside the B & B building. The light breakfast of fruit, breads, cheeses, and coffee was very satisfying and fulfilling. We stayed in the balcony room (1) and were only slightly bothered by outside noises from the bars below us on the first night (Friday). A bit quieter the next two nights after we learned to fully close the doors to the balcony. Our friends were in room (3) facing the back of the building to a quieter street below. They experienced a quiet three nights for sleeping. We would definitely select Casa de Marcelo B & B in our future travel plans to Barcelona. Ciao!

Room Tip: Room #1 with balcony opens to the bar crowd below. Excellent for sitting outside with a drink and p...
