Just returned from a one week trip to Barcelona with girlfriends. We chose Casa Marcelo based on other trip advisor reviews and were not disappointed. This was a wonderful place to stay...great location and outstanding service. Marcelo was a charming host and his staff promptly helped us with any request. Marcelo helped us with reservations and gave us great suggestions on restaurants, etc. He even took us to a wonderful local olive oil, etc. shop to purchase local foods. Although the b&b is in the middle of the city, noise was not an issue. Shared bathrooms were very clean. Would definitely recommend "Marcelo's place" for comfort, quality and the opportunity to experience "local" Barcelona. Thanks Marcelo! Your North Carolina girls (Linda, Karan, Betty and Mary).

We had a long weekend in Barcelona. Everything about our stay at Casa Marcelo was terrific. The location, the room, the breakfast, the staff, the pressure in the shower, etc. I would definitely recommend Casa Marcelo Barcelona to my friends and will be back to stay here.

This is simply the nicest place to stay not just because of its location, but more over because of the owner and staff. They were most helpful with tending with our special needs and offering information and helping with reservations and the best ways to see the city.

Room Tip: Our stay was in the balcony room - Worth the extra money

Everything about this b & b was fantastic, from the first greeting to advice, the rooms, the breakfast and location. Marcelo and team were great hosts, nothing was difficult. They were always on hand to assist and provide great information about Barcelona. Highly recommend to those looking for a b & b in a great location run by truly wonderful people.

This B&B is really great. We were able to get the balcony bedroom with a great and large en suite bathroom. Marcelo, Olivier, and the staff were all so nice and helpful. They speak English (in varying degrees of fluency but generally very well. We had no problems talking to anyone. It was incredibly nice of them to accomodate English speakers) and can tell you about restaurants and transport etc. We took the train from the airport. In the airport, just follow the signs to the train. There was an English speaking man helping people buy the right tickets which was very, very helpful. It's a comfortable, pretty short ride. Follow the directions on the Casa de Marcelo website and you will have no problems. The train station in a very short distance from the apartment. We walked there easily with our heavy bags. Maybe 5-6 blocks. I made sure to look carefully at the pictures of the outside of the building and jotted down a few notes so I would recognize it. It's an apartment building without a sign (but easy to find if you know what to look for).
The building has a very small elevator which was lovely as our bags were heavy. The building is located in the gorgeous El Born neighborhood, steps to shops, restaurants, sightseeing, etc. We were highly impressed with the neighborhood and all it had to offer. Barcelona is so beautiful! The apartment was the perfect place to use as a home base. The balcony was so nice for relaxing with some cheese and crackers and wine. The bed linens were great (something I am picky about), we slept peacefully. The bathroom was attractive and spacious with a glassed in shower (very nice considering most of the European hotels I have been in have no curtain or anything). The breakfast had several options- fruit, pastries, bread for toast, juice, coffee, tea. It was nice to have that available to us as it is sometimes hard to find breakfast in places with which you are not familiar. This place is different from your standard run of the mill hotel and we couldn't have been more happy with it.
Some tips:
There is a small grocery right around the corner with cheese, crackers, wine, beer, liquor, fruit, etc. The apartment has a kitchen if you want to cook.
The shared bathroom for the other rooms without an en suite is very attractive, clean, modern and was always empty when we were there.
The owners only accept cash for payment so make sure you carry enough with you.

Room Tip: The balcony room has an en suite bathroom for those who are nervous about sharing a bathroom.
