Booked on website and received email confirmation. Hassle free booking process and great evening which was certainly the highlight of our weekend in Barcelona. We booked the buffet meal which included drinks plus the show. Excellent choice of hot and cold food plus desserts. WE had the sangria which was very drinkable. The show itself was brilliant with flamenco, spanish guitar and singing. We had really good seats and would recommend the show as a special treat to round off a break in Barcelona.

The Flamenco in this show was different from what I had previously seen in Saville or at Sadlers Wells. All dancing was solo, there was no couples dancing, and a lot of the evening was taken up with music rather than dancing. That said, the dancers put a lot of passion into their work and were technically brilliant, especially the foot tapping. The room was crowded and dark during the performance and it was not the most comfortable evening out

I’m glad you enjoyed the show despite the inconvenience you felt at not seeing a couple dancing. Our shows change every day, and from one show to another on the same night. Here at the Cordobes we value the improvisation from the artists and encourage them to dance, play, and sing as they feel in the moment. This style of performance is typical in traditional tablaos and it is what we try so hard to recreate for our audience. In almost every show, we usually have a couple dancing, but not always. It depends on the organization of the show with the artists working that day, and how they choose to improvise.

However, I assume from your low validation that this was not your main concern, but that your lack of comfort during the show was. I will try to explain why seeing a flamenco show in a tablao is so different from a theatre. The Tablao is similar to the cave like bar where The Beatles began their career; and like many other spaces for live music perhaps 100% comfort is not the main objective, but the overall experience. The authenticity experienced in a tablao comes from the small; sometimes uncomfortable setting of the venue. I will admit that a tablao is not a large space like what you might find in a theatre for musicals, or something similar, but you can be sure it is the place to really feel and live the passion you enjoyed when you described those “passionate dancers”. What allows the public to feel such passion is just this type of atmosphere that can only be found in a tablao, rather than in a large cold theatre. It is my hope that perhaps if you had had this information before, you would have felt less uncomfortable.

Best Regards.

really sad to say how dissapointed i was with this....performers were fantastic dancers but ive seen bigger and better shows in torremolenos. for me thats because they heard so many people into a tiny room were your packed in like sardines in really uncomfortable chairs.
one woman in the front got hit in the face with one of the dancers skirts your that close. very few seats at the front as the place is so narrow so the majority of people only get side view of the dancers.
the dancers do upto 4 shows a night every hour and a half and although their performances are great, you very much get the impression the owners are milking tourists for every penny they can.dvd availiable at the end!. one couple with such a bad view got up and left. if you want to do something cultural id check out other venues such as whats on at the opera house or music theater of which there are at least 3 different ones very locally....dont get sucked into the toursist trap just because this is well known

Dear Sir,

I am confused as to why you describe The Cordobes as a tourist trap when you describe the show as a “great performance”. In any case, thank you very much for this kind comment.
However, I cannot accept your description that the Cordobes is a tourist trap. We work very, very hard to offer our visitors a real, authentic flamenco show. It is our guarantee that any time a visitor comes to Cordobes they will find the best Spanish artists in flamenco in all of Spain. For instance, we are currently show casing Olga Pericet and Marco Flores (dancers), La Tana (singer), and David Cerreduela (guitarist). All of them are considered the most relevant, and best flamenco artists of the moment. Please conduct an internet search in order to confirm this claim.

I have no doubt you have seen “bigger” places and shows, but in the world of flamenco, bigger isn’t necessarily better. In fact, a tablao, which is the traditional space where flamenco shows began, is a very small place. The space is usually in a cave form so the acoustics are allowed to travel through the room without the use of microphones. This allows the audience to experience the purity of the flamenco sound, at the same time enveloped by the atmosphere. The Cordobes is a traditional tablao: small (no more than 150 seats), with excellent sound; without microphones, and seating all around the stage, as close as possible.

It is true that The Cordobes has up to 4 different shows per night, and that we have many, many clients. We are proud of this. We are the only Tablao in all of Spain that is so successful. We have also been open for 43 years. In any case, each show is different, and as unique and brilliant as the next. This is because our artists are encouraged to improvise and feel the moment; which is the essence of traditional flamenco. The artists we contract are all very significant artists, busy working all around the world, and every month we have different artists performing for us.

I’m sorry you didn’t feel comfortable in the small space, but you can be sure you enjoyed an authentic flamenco show at its highest level. I hope this explanation gives you a better understanding of what a flamenco show is, and more importantly, what is considered a Tablao. I hope you’ll visit us again and perhaps with this explanation you will enjoy the experience more.

Best Regards.

So the bad first.... myself and 3 others purchased the dinner and show tickets. When we arrive we were promptly shown to our seats and invited to hit the buffet. The service portion of the dinner was fine, the waiter was attentive and kept our glasses filled. Unfortunately the food was not great. While I usually don't hold buffets to high standards, this one still fell short. There were a handful of dishes that we enjoyed, but for the most part many dishes were a bit bland and left a lot to be desired. I am a desert guy, so I was bummed when none of the deserts ended up being very good either. I would not say the food was bad, it just was not worth the money and next time I would choose to eat somewhere else then go to the show.

Now, for the high point, the show! It was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately we were seated on the back row, so we didn't get to see as much of the feet movements from the performers. However, there was more than enough action to keep us highly entertained and once we got over the initial appointment of the location of our seats, we loved the show. There were only a handful of rows, so even though we were in the back, we were not far from the stage.

It was the second show of the night so you always worry if the performers will have the same energy as they do in the first sitting.... this was not a problem. Every one of the performers put on an amazing show! The emotion that is put into this performance by each of the performers makes for spectacular entertainment.

This was how we choose to spend the last night of a 3 week European vacation and we were not disappointed. It was a great way to end the trip on a high note. If you are thinking of going to a flamenco show, I would highly recommend Tablao Cordobes!

I did not eat here. I don't like buffet and that is what they have. My decision not to eat here was also based on the fact that when I went inside to purchase my tickets, there was a big bottle of roach spray on the counter. YIKES!! The Show was Phenomenal. The dancers are top notch and very sexy. A must if you are in BCN.
