“Super hotel in the Eixample”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

Room mate Emma was exactly what a hotel should be. Clean, very comfortable and large bed, great shower and free wifi. Although the rooms are groovy, it's not like a fancy hotel so there's none of the luxurious stuff like bathrobes, lounge suites, room service etc. that you really don't need. Just a nice simple hotel, centrally located from which to explore Barcelona
The staff are super friendly too!

My only minor complaints are:

Breakfast starts at 7.30 am which is too late for an early person like me
There is no full length mirror in the room, in case you want to make sure you look smart

We stayed here in May 2013, very nice room, kingsize bed, wifi, everything very nice, couldn't be better.
We had a full breakfast that was very tasty, eggs, bacon, cheeses, meats, juices, coffee, tea, and more.
The staff was super friendly and helpful. We have stayed in the RoomMate in Madrid, and this was equally as nice.

We stayed there in May 2013. The room was small but adequate and clean. We did not have a 'view' as we were not facing the street but that was ok for us. Free wifi worked but was sometimes painlully slow. Nice modern design throughout the hotel. Breakfast was until 12.00 which was great, staff in general very helpful. Not close to the Rambla, was about 15 to 20 mins walk, but metro station was only 1 min walk away, very convenient.

Spent 5 days in early May and found this hotel acceptable but somewhat lower than I expected. What I liked:
- friendly staff, was very helpfull whatever issue was adressed
- nice design
- breakfast hours (until 12!)
- 24/7 shop next door

What I didn't like:
- View was the biggest disappointment because my room on the 6th floor was facing a concrete wall which was only 5 meters from our building. I expected more for EUR 200
- First night internet didn't work, thouhg it was fixed afterwards

Location of this hotel is good for exploring La Gracia and Diagonal, but you have to be prepared to walk 20 minutes to the historic ceter and the sea. For me this location was ok because this area has less tourist crouds

Room Tip: Ask for a street view - rooms are smaller but you will not face a wall!

Hotel Room Mate Emma is a warm and welcoming oasis in Barcelona. The city is stunningly stylish, but – like any major metropolis – can feel daunting, frenetic, exhausting and even overpowering at times. Emma is a grandly relaxing home base in such a place; here you will find a cosmopolitan and contemporary style mixed with old-world hospitality.
The décor is cutting edge, plenty of white with splashes of an attractive red-tinged purple. From reception to lobby, elevator to hallway, breakfast café to the rooms themselves, every touch is ultra-modern – but not cold or off-putting. Rooms are modest in size, but smartly laid out to provide maximum use of the space. The décor is brilliant in accentuating the available space and creating an artistic yet friendly ambience – perfectly suited to the soul of this city.
The breakfast at 7.9 euros is pricy, but also elegant and top-quality, with a variety of juices, fruit, cold meats, cheese, pastries and cereals.
In our visit, the hotel made a reservation error that inadvertently caused us to spend our first night in a room less than what we’d reserved. They were more than fair in correcting this with an upgrade for the remainder of our stay, assigning us a room with amenities that we will remember for a lifetime. The penthouse suites offer outdoor hot tubs and a chance to sleep – or just nap – under the stars on something of a double bed. Expensive, but genuinely remarkable.
Water pressure is excellent, the furniture is a trendier version of IKEA ... though the beds were a shade too firm for my taste. Clientele appeared upscale, the hotel’s location is safe and convenient. The building is flawlessly immaculate.
The staff is the highlight. In our four days, they were almost uniformly superb. (With one unfortunate exception, a clerk who was relentlessly rude, the reception staff here is one of the best we’ve encountered anywhere in the world. Unfortunately, we could find no on-duty manager to deal with that one bad apple. It is this fact that keeps the Emma from being a full 5-stars in my view.)
Martina and Magda at the front desk were wonderfully accommodating in aiding us during a credit card mini-crisis, and were gracious throughout our stay. The Housekeeping staff and breakfast staff were warm and friendly, too. The most outstanding is Oscar, who could be a concierge at any 5-star hotel. This man knows and loves his city, and truly enjoys helping visitors see the best of it. He manages to be charming, courtly and efficient, all at once.
Overall, a magnificent hotel that is well-deserving of its high Trip Advisor status.

I am staying here right now and I was very excited based on the reviews I read online. We have an interior facing room and the size is good. But the room feels cold and barren. It's not homey feeling and the walls are very white.

But besides the decor choices, the finishings need updating. The counter in the bathroom has stains, the grout looks dirty in places, the bathroom just doesn't feel clean, and there are lots of holes in the grout in the wall. It just has a feel of being hastily done with a modern ambiance.

I hope the breakfast tomorrow doesn't disappoint! I would probably not stay here again unless I somehow have the bad luck of having the worst room.

Spent two nights in this hotel. Good location which is close to bars and restaurants. What made this hotel was the staff who were extremely helpful. We were upgraded to a room with a window which we were pleased about as couldn't envisage staying in room without a window. Room was a good size and with the windows closed didn't hear any street noise at all.
