“Stylish and comfortable!”
Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I stayed here with our seven year old son and nine year old daughter. We were all very impressed with the decor and overall appearance of the hotel. The hotel was VERY clean and the rooms cleaned and tidied daily. The hotel is very family orientated and the staff friendly and approachable. The kids lived the Xbox consoles and the Xbox connect....a lovely touch!
The pool in the roof is lovely, the only way I could improve this area would be to a add a few more loungers in the decking area as people put towels out and you may struggle to find somewhere to sit.
The bar located on lithe roof has lovely panoramic views of Barcelona....beautiful!
The free wifi is great and kept the kids entertained so be sure to take any devices with you.
The location is superb as you are clese to sagrada familia and next to torre agbar. There is a shopping complex opposite with lots of fat foot outlets and restaurants. We dined in the hotel restaurant Claravia but were very disappointed as they didn't know how to cater for a gluten free diet...even presenting my husband with a steak on its own because they said the vegetables and potatoes all contained gluten, when we questioned this the waiter was quite rude and blamed his manager...who then came over and sorted the problem and gave us a complete dish eventually!!
Breakfast was fantastic, omelettes made to order, bacon, pastries etc. there is even a crèche who held arts and craft sessions so you could enjoy a coffee without the kids!
We would all recommend this hotel and may even return...fantastic x

We booked a room to sleep 4 and expected to pay much more than we did for a 4 star hotel in the heart of a big European city in the peak of summer (July). I've stayed in many Novotels and this one is definitely a step above most - the lobby is very trendy and colourful, staff are really helpful and the rooms and big with great views over the city. The highlight of the hotel has to be the rooftop pool - the kids would happily have spent their entire Barcelona holiday in the pool if they'd been able to.
We didn't eat at the hotel - didn't need to with many cafes and restaurants across the road. There's a tube station almost on the door step and the hop-on, hop-off bus (highly recommended) has a stop just across the road. So location is just brilliant. Best bit of all is the large Zara shop in the mall - Barcelona has the cheapest Zara in the world according to our taxi driver and I think he might be right.
Overall this was a great hotel and we would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: One side of the building has a better view than the other side so ask for one of the 'good view...

Try to get even numbered rooms, this side of the hotel you can see Sagrada Família, Montjuic and the sea... Just take care if you have accor cards, for 2 times they forgot to credit my points even after I asked confirmation.

Room Tip: Even numbered, high floors.

We stayed as a family from August 6th-9th as part of a city break in Barcelona, and chose the Novotel as a modern hotel with the rooftop pool & bar being important.

When we arrived we received a big welcome from the staff at the LeClub Accor desk and our Platinum status was acknowledged, but we didn't receive any special benefits we noticed as a member during our stay. We did however receive a good, clean standard room with a partial city view which was great. The hotel takes up the top half of the building, with basement and ground floor public areas only so I imagine most rooms have a reasonable view. The bathroom was well sized for a mid-range hotel and the toiletries were the standard Novotel range, and the kids said the sofa bed was comfortable, but there wasn't much space in the room when pulled out. Free in-room WiFi was an excellent bonus and a kettle was provided in our room (albeit with paper cups).

The public areas of the hotel were kept clean and were very trendy and modern. It is a shame that the lobby bar was hardly ever open as it was annoying to go to the busy rooftop bar every time you needed a drink, but I admit that the atmosphere up there is great. Special events are held here weekly but we did not experience any during our stay. The pool and fitness facilities on the rooftop area were good, but could be easily made better in so many ways it was frustrating. For example just small things like there was no water provided in the fitness centre, towels were not restocked etc. and also as it was unsupervised the hotel let seven year old children run in and use the treadmills barefoot whilst people worked out! This is not only dangerous but distracted guests that actually wanted to use the facilities.

Breakfast is served in the basement area of the hotel in a huge conference room, and there was a good selection of hot and cold items, but I felt there wasn't enough fresh fruit options and this was a let down. Lunch and dinner are available in the main hotel restaurant 'Claravia' which has a door that backs onto one of the main streets in the area, which unfortunately meant it was easy for distraction thieves to target a single woman during her meal and steal her phone from the table. We were a bit jarred by the incident and were not reassured by the restaurant staff that everything was OK which was really bad service, and we didn't eat here again. Definitely the lowlight of our stay and I hope that the poor lady targeted is well. Aside from this we felt safe throughout our entire trip in Barcelona, just remember not to lower your guard where you should feel safe.

I would use this hotel again but it would be nice to see some of the niggles I mentioned corrected. The hotel is ideally located for public transport as Glories metro & tram stops are just 2 minutes walk past the Agbar Tower, and there is another lesser tram stop almost opposite the hotel building. Buy a T-10 ticket from the machines at the stops to get the best value (10 journey ticket, useful on any bus, tram, city train or metro service), and you can share these 10 journeys between your group before buying another card if you like. The Glories shopping centre is also opposite the hotel with a range of convenient food outlets (Starbucks, Pollo Campero etc.) and a huge Carrefour that you can use to buy drinks for in your room.

We were quite disappointed with the Novotel Barcelona. The rooms were very small & the amenities very stretched. No kettle, no cups, (but ironically, tea bags!!). Only shampoo & soap in the bathroom, nothing else. I suppose if you're just in Barcelona to party/travel/sight see etc & you're just wanting somewhere to sleep & nothing else, then maybe it's ok. Very over priced for what you get!! Many many many better options (so we found after we checked in!!). I would do my homework next time on the difference between Hotels in different countries. Certainly won't be booking again in a hurry!! (Skyscanner.com & Trip Advisor are the best way to source great accommodation around the world.

Room Tip: Budget accommodation.
