“Worth a visit for small things”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

This shop has many spices and delicacies but I did not find it a good value. They helpers are nice and make good suggestions. I would go again, but the chocolate is very expensive.

“Interesting shop with lots of delicacies”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

The shop is located in an area with lots of small streets in what seems to be the old parts of Barcelona. The shop itself is long and narrow, and quite dark. Going in, you instantly smell a lot of different things, herbs, spices, etc. I don't know if it might be a one day thing, but at the day of my visit, the staff wasn't too helpfull and almost seemed occupied with something else. This was quite sad, because it really is an interesting place. If you are into cooking you really must go here.

“Full of atmosphere and local feeling!”

Buy the homeroasted almonds and have a look at the roaster located in the shop. Friendly and service minded staff.

“Specialty food shop worth seeking out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2012

The specialty seems to be nuts- they use a 150 year old roaster to do the on-site roasting.
It looked like you could purchase by weight, but they also have prepackaged bags of different sizes, which was convenient for those who'll be taking these home.

They stock other staples of the Spanish pantry- beans (all types), lentils, and saffron.

Staff spoke limited English, but I managed.

“A legacy being undermarketed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2011

Finding our way to those tapas mentioned on the guidebooks, we stopped by at at Casa Gispert (E&A Gispert) - a hidden treasure not too distinguishable by our source of info.

They have been selling good quality local produce for 160 years. And they are not over-marketing their legacy, probally too under-marketing it, actually. We selected nuts, dates and cookies on the go and till we reached San Sebastian, we did not find anything eqaully tasty.

Trusting their recommendation, we also chose a tapas over those mentioned in the guidebook instead. It also ended up as a very good memory of ours.
