“Great place to stay”
Reviewed October 31, 2011

This is a great place to stay in Barcelona. The subway station is relatively close to this location. I agree that the rooms maybe small, but I didn't have any complaints. The breakfast was great. Criossants/coffee/juice and much much more more. Lunch and dinner were also included. Wine is served in huge jugs (not surprised). The "hotel" has a nice courtyard if you like to spend outside.
All meals are served at very specific times, so if you are late you may miss out on the food, and will have to eat out.

Quite far from city of Barcelona, but accessible by Metro. It is difficult to find the hotel as it dont appears like a hotel in the front. Staff are friendly and helpful. While I had to vacate the hotel very early, they gave me a picnic breakfast take away which was very helpful to me which I really appreciate.

Rooms are old type, washrooms are clean. Room cleanliness can be improved. Its quite noisy as the rooms are not acoustic proof and so its a great disturbance. No aircondition which is a big problem during summer or in winter. But value for money.

We (2 adults with a kid) stayed here for 3 nights. We looked for a hotel or guesthouse in Barcelona with free private parking (public parkings are really expensive in Barcelona).
All buildings are really old. We booked a room for 3 adults. Our room was very basic (2 uncomfortable beds in the room and 1 bed in small corridor). In this corridor there are several plumbing tubes on the celling). Breakfast was very poor and served in "factory-style" canteen.
But this residencia has very nice courtyard with a pond with turtles. Metro station is about 5 minutes away. It's necessary 15 minutes to get to the city center by metro. Wi-Fi internet is free of charge.

We stayed for just one night, if we had intended to stay in Barcelona any longer I would have left as soon as I saw the room to find another hotel. It's that bad.

I believe it's student halls (poor students) so the whole place (once you're inside) feels like a neglected school. We stayed in a three person room, the third bed of which is actually in the corridor (with a shoddy wooden wall separating you from the public walkway, complete with moulding pipes in your room.

The two bed area is barren and all the beds are no more than (very old) camp beds and squeak loudly when you turn in your sleep, or one of the others turn in their sleep, or when next door do the same (the walls are less than paper thin). Do not expect a good nights sleep.

The bathroom is unbelievably small, dirty, has an open drain (which smells awful) and the shower door is mouldy and, in our room, does not shut.

On top of all this, it is not signposted at all from the outside so you would need to know exactly where it is to find it. Not that I would recommend that you bother. It's a good long walk to the metro station, the receptionist will not give you directions only tell you he has maps for sale. You have to go to the metro if you would like to see ANYTHING of the city except for the slum like area that the hotel is located in.

It's not even cheap (apparently it is for Barcelona but in the grand scheme of things it isn't) we paid 70euros for one night for three people. We paid 20euros in Madrid (again for three) and received a much higher standard of accommodation.

If I could give this 'hotel' no stars I would. DO NOT STAY HERE.

The hotel is based in the Montbau area, roughly a 15 min train journey from the centre of town. It won't win any prizes for being the best looking or most luxurious hotel in Barcelona, but for those looking for value will not be disappointed.

PROS:

1) PRICE - The total cost was £25 per person per night. I spoke to some people staying in a youth hostel that were paying more than us. You will save money by staying at Codolar.

2) Breakfast included - This made us very happy. Every day there is a buffet with croissants, bread and a selection of fillings. There is also a coffee machine and bottles of water.

3) Location - 5 min walk from the station, 10 min walk from supermarket.

4) Customer service - The staff are friendly, and everyone we spoke to had a grasp of the English language ( a rarity in Barcelona). For example, we needed some new towels and they were delivered within a few hours.

CONS:

1) NO air conditioning in rooms - It reaches 27°C at NIGHT in Barcelona. So you can imagine, a lack of air conditioning was a major disappointment for us when we arrived at the hotel. Sleeping was difficult the first few nights, after that we adapted to the temperatures.

2) Location - The hotel is not in walking distance of anything. You will need to take a train daily to see Barcelona. This will cost €1.40 per journey. You can also buy 10 journeys for €8.

3) No Luxuries - For this price, we didn't expect much. There is no swimming pool, however there is a fountain with turtles swimming in it.

Overall Score: 7.5/10

Guesthouse of the Salesian seminari Martí-Codolar The hostelry of the Salesian seminary Martí-Codolar is a place of shelter for people or groups who wish to spend a few days of rest in an idyllic garden environment, a few minutes from Barcelona town center. Our means and resources are limited and we cannot provide the services of a commercial hotel, but we do offer all the amenities in a friendly and familiar atmosphere. To make it possible, we ask all our visitors to follow a set of simple rules: Reception Our reception staff is 24 hours available. Dinning-room service The dining room works as self-service, but the tables are assigned on a group basis. After each meal and before leaving the dining room you are obliged to collect your dishes from the table and leave them in the indicated containers. Breakfast is served from 08:00 to 09:30 am, lunch from 01:30 to 03:00 pm and dinner from 08:00 to 09:30 pm. In all cases the dining room will close thirty minutes after the set time. In case your arrival is out of the aforementioned timetables we can also offer you a picnic, which you can pleasantly enjoy in our gardens as well. Large groups - more than 10 people - must request their intention to book meals or the cancellation of these with a minimum notice of 24 hours. Not being done this way, in the first case we could not guarantee the service, and in the second guests should equally pay. Smaller groups will be able to report back on their intentions until 10:00 pm of the same day, which will be also valid for the regulations of meals for larger groups. Bedrooms Bedrooms do not have TV and it is not allowed to smoke or cook inside them. Check-out is before 11:00 am, with the delivery of keys at reception. The bed linen is changed every three days and the towels every two days of stay. Common spaces We request the most attention and care with the animals and plants in our gardens. Furniture Furniture should not be moved from its place, unless having our explicit authorization, and this also includes the garden. Parking Our parking is very limited in its dimensions, so please reduce the number of vehicles to park in order to not saturate it and park always respecting the limited areas. Buses must be announced at the time of booking and will be assigned a specific space. Given these circumstances, the hostelry cannot guarantee parking spots for all its guests at all times. Others Always take the precaution to close the doors of your bedroom because the guesthouse Martí-Codolar is not responsible for the possible misplace of belongings, which also includes the ones left in reception. In order to ensure the rest for all our guests, please be silent between 11:00 pm and 08:00 am. The internet access is free and the key will be advised at the front desk upon arrival. It is not permitted the use of bathing suits or the lack of pieces of clothing in the public spaces of the house, neither the exhibits that could dismiss morality or the appeal of the rest of the guests.
