Positives: Very nice location across across the plaza from the Cathedral (which is a must-see attraction), and reasonable walking distance to some other attractions. Rooms facing the plaza have a beautiful view. The public areas are tastefully decorated. Staff generally helpful, but sometimes harried if busy. Breakfast buffet is adequate but not special. Drinks and light food available outdoors on the plaza - nice before dinner at a local restaurant.
Issues: Major difference among rooms depending on the floor. It seems that rooms on the lower floors (first two or so), including our pair of rooms, haven't been redecorated in years and show their age - many dents and dings; generally dowdy. Rooms are quite small, even in the higher-cost tiers. Air conditioning largely ineffective. Members of our family stayed here a couple of years ago and liked it - but they had a room on a high floor, which had been renovated / redecorated. Seeing their photos, the differences are clear.
Overall, not bad for the price but could be better. (Barcelona is a wonderful city - so don't spend too much time in your room wherever you stay!)More
