“Montserrat & Winery Trip - Perfect Experience with Spanish Trails”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2013

Recently enjoyed a great experience with Spanish Trails on the Montserrat / Winery day trip from Barcelona.

Spanish Trails had come recommended by a family member, and upon reading additional reviews online was a no brainer for us. We also went on the All Things Dali trip to Port Lligat, Cadaques and Figueres - see other review. Communication, booking and payment processes were handled very well and in advance so as not to leave any confusion or last minute work.

We were not surprised to find that every other person in our two groups was doing at least one other Spanish Trails tour during their trips - all had nothing but high praise for every different trip. A perfect experience for those looking to get more out of the sightseeing in a comfortable, professionally organized way with tour guides who add a tremendous amount of value and enjoyment to the experience.

For our Montserrat / winery visit. Our guide, Viktor, was enthusiastic and engaged from our arrival at the meeting location. Throughout the day Viktor was a great guide and really more of a partner in the process. He immediately connected with everyone in the group which also fostered a great interaction with the other people in our small group (6 total + guide). Viktor provided not only great and entertaining information about the sites, but was very well versed in general knowledge (social culture, politics, economy, religion, history) about Barcelona, Spain, Europe and the rest of the world. This provided great additional discussion within the group and added to the value of the experience.

I won't go into the details of the sites other to say there is more than enough info online. Views were breathtaking at Montserrat. For religious people I am sure there is added value in the importance of the pilgrimage, monastery, black Madonna and boys choir. As an atheist I still love visiting churches based on the architecture and human cultural and historical aspects. Great experience regardless of your beliefs.

Lunch at the restaurant (Vinya Nova) was a highlight of the day. Incredible setting in an olive & fig orchard at the foot of the mountains. Great meal - the fresh bread with crushed garlic, tomatoes and oil was unreal.

The winery visit was brief but very informative, you get an overview of the winemaking process, to sample some delicious wines from a great organic winery, and have the chance to buy some bottles for very great value. Nice way to end the afternoon.

Transportation was in a very new VW van with comfortable seating, 3 zone climate control, and nice tinted windows for privacy. Very comfortable transportation for the winding mountain roads in a modern, safe and quality vehicle. Also very unassuming amongst all of the massive tour buses. The schedule was setup in a way to minimize any crowds or waiting...very strategic to maximize your enjoyment.

Can't recommend highly enough. You get great value out of these packages and will unquestionably thank yourself. We have since found out that Spanish Trails is known to be used by certain high profile people as well as supporting travel channel programming. Easy to see why. If we find ourselves in Barcelona again we'll know who to call.

“Wine routes and tasting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

We had some confusion regarding directions for the train, but otherwise had a great time. We were the only couple on the tour so we had to pay an additional 30 euros which was disappointing but clearly stated prior to our booking.

Albert was there at train station to greet us with the bikes. The bike ride although short had some good hills which we managed fine. Albert was incredibly knowledgable about the region and wine making. We even took pictures with the workers cutting grapes by hand.

I think the highlight of the trip was having lunch with Albert and his sister in law Christina. It was a true cultural exchange and the food was delicious.

Thanks to both Albert and Christina!

“Fantastic time in Barcelona!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2013

Both tours we took were the most fantastic touring events we have taken in a long time. The bike city tour with Viktor was great and informative; we thoroughly enjoyed the day and got to experience a wide variety of what Barcelona has to offer.

The wine and bike tour was also excellent, the tour guide Albert was awesome and incredibly helpful. He made my parents feel at ease and showed incredible passion for wine. Of all the wine tours taken it was the most educational without being boring whatsoever.

“Spanish Trails Costa Brava and Girona”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2013

My two days with Spanish Trails were the highlights of my trip to Barcelona. Richard was a superb trip leaders in all ways - knowledgeable, funny, responsive to the needs and abilities of the group and just plain fun to be with. A bit of Monty Python and other humor added a dimension. The group was also terrific - all from the U.S. but compatible and fun and flexible, given the rapid change in weather in the late afternoon!

I had so much fun that I signed up for a second trip, equally good!

“A Magical Day at Montserrat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2013

The drive to Montserrat with Viktor, our guide and driver was not an ordainary ride. Viktor engaged his group with exploratory conversation as he learned who we were and what our likes and dislikes were. His discussions were also informative and educational giving us factual, religious ,geographical and historical pointers on the Montserrat wonder we were about to behold. The mountan itself is other worldly, visually magnificent and spiritually uplifting. The Cathedral was among the most magnificent Ive ever seen. We walked up the steep steps of the mountain as Viktor gave us his narrative at every stop. A must if walking the mountain is to be in good walking shape and wear comfortable shoes. The small outdoor market offered us some needed nourishment, refreshments and souvenirs. Soon after we witnessed the substantive art collection of some of the great masters. Our day wasnt ending here as we drove to a local olive vineyard for lunch. The meal was graciously hosted by Andrew the owner. Wine flowed freely as did the conversation amongst the diners. Following lunch we made our way to a wine tasting hosted by June of Pares Balta Penedes and Cava. This was most informative and entertaining. This day, unfortunately, had to end as it was a highlight of our two country 10 day tour. Our hats are off to Spanish Trails Day Tours and Events for this offering and the inclusion of Viktor as tour guide.
