“What a room!”
Reviewed July 24, 2010

Booked a Cool Corner Suite on the 20th. floor for four nights in July and it did not disappoint.
We arrived early and only the third agreed time we returned to the reception our room was ready, but it was worth waiting for! Amazing views of the city and beach from the living room and the Mediterranean from our bedroom. Room was clean and with all the amenities you could have asked for, the bed was perfect. Would have liked turn down service at night including fresh towels.
We had breakfast at both restaurants the Wave and Bravo as well as in our room, with Bravo as the best choice – calm and relaxing setting with a nice buffet. We had lunch in both the Wave restaurant and the W bar, no complaints. Dinner at Bravo, the restaurant run by the famous Carlos Abellán, was nothing special at all. If you want a great meal try his signature restaurant Comerc 24 a short ride from the hotel, this is superb! (another tip. is the “Dry Martini Bar” – awesome!).
Pool is nice, great service as well. We stayed at the beach club one day, it does not belong to W but if you have a cocktail or lunch it is free including sunbeds and umbrellas.
My wife had a massage in the spa and was very happy with the treatment and service. We also used the fitness-center, very large and with all new equipment.
The hotel is (only) 10 minutes from the city centre by taxi, but during the hot summer months I would always prefer to stay on the beach near the ocean instead of downtown.
This is the hotel to stay at in summer time. Is it 5 star? probably only if you have the perfect room as we did. The rest of the hotel is “W” style great, but not fantastic.

We checked into the gorgeous new W Barcelona for a couple nights prior to embarking on a cruise. The lovely check in staff informed us they had upgraded us to a suite. The Cool Corner Suite on the 20th floor was amazing, with gorgeous sea views and cool contemporary furniture. It was also very quiet, which is important to me, (although they play hip music out in the hallways, you can't hear it in your room)
We truly loved this hotel. All the staff was warm and gracious, and I received numerous E-mails prior to my arrival (had hired their car service -80 Euros-for airport pick-up etc)
Even though our luggage was late arriving to our room, and for a bit we worried it was lost, the charming desk manager Federico Inserra was gracious and reassuring (And the luggage made it to our room shortly) The food and beverages were delicious. We ate in the Wave restaurant for lunch two afternoons in a row and sat on the lounge couches looking out at the pool. For those desiring a trendy atmosphere, the pool/bar scene is very chic. Another plus is that it is right on the beach. The only thing that didn't thrill me was that the breakfast buffet upstairs wasn't as good as the restaurant downstairs, and the servers up there at breakfast basically ignored us. Highly recommend this hotel.

Beautiful hotel! A bit out of the city center but it has breathtaking views. If you lucky score a corner room it doesn't have to be on a high floor to feel like you're floating a million miles out at sea. So relaxing. Great shower too.

Better for pleasure than business though.

Wow, this hotel is a lost opportunity. Great setting, good rooms but really, reallly lousy service. Staff is friendly but unmanaged. Reserved cradle several days before arrival, checked in at noon and despite a call every 2 hours to that ridiculous whatever-whenever concierge service we did not get the cradle until close to 1 a.m. Many apologies and promises with every call, but nothing happened until that time. The little girl crying, her mother close to a nervous breakdown and my anniversary stay spoilt. BTW, there must have been many people with problems, as that infamous "whatever whenever" thing (certainly not a "service") had me waiting in the phone loop consistently for 10 minutes, sometime much more... Btw, check in line lasted 25 minutes!!! and nobody there to offer even a glass of water nor take care of special cases, such as families with baby childs... It is amazing to see how a great hotel can be spoilt by inept management...

BTW, floors 1 to 6 are noisy at night because the room doors are in the huge lobby hall with music and occasionally noisy customers. Not even my SPG Gold status helped to get me a few floors higher....

In my previous trips to Barcelona I stayed at the Sansi hotels (a small "chain" of two) which are setting benchmarks for passionate and professional customer service. They really care...

If you've ever stayed at the W, you won't be disappointed here. Traditional W features, such as DJs downstairs, extremely stylish rooms and helpful staff.

Food was great, but like anything else here, expect to pay top dollar for food & drink. The hotel also has a nice bar on the top floor with great views of the city at night.

Use a taxi to get arrive and depart since the subway line is not nearby, but you can take a bus to get to the main areas if you have the time.

The views from the bedroom were absolutely amazing - to wake up each day and see the odd cruiseliner in the distance. The room was sheer luxury with very comfortable King Size bed in the middle of the room looking over the wonderful views.
Location was perfect for the beach and the port. Lovely seafood restuarants nearby.
The one slightly disappointing area was the pool - it is smaller than it looks in the pictures. The terrace is lovely to sit on both during the day and in the evening.
Hotel was so quiet and being 19 floors up we heard no noise at all. We found the concierge staff were really helpful .
Would recommend this hotel to anyone and would love to go again.

Never have seen such a great hotel! Only cleaniness not rated with 5 (fingerprints on window, floor not 100% clean), but these were only minor issues. In all other aspects top class!
