This hotel is spectacular - I would recommend a stay here for a great holiday experience or even a wedding or big anniversary - its well worth it! You will spend some time just wandering around taking in the stunning decor which has to be a new benchmark in style at a worldwide level.
We were really spoiled by being SPG upgraded to an amazing suite (I think it was a Fabulous room) high up on the 25th floor. (Even though the nightclub was one floor above us, there was actually very little noise from it at night, it was well soundproofed.) We had two large beautifully appointed rooms (see photos, one living, one bedroom) with 2 huge windows facing the beach and a huge bathroom with a bath you could scuba in, as well as an extra powder room with toilet and trendy round pedestal basin. It had so many extra gadgets - like iPhone docking station, sound system, 2 big flat screen TVs that doubled as computer screens, different coloured mood lighting that could be changed in each room (pink, green, turquoise) but oddly it was missing any inbuilt tea/coffee making facilities however on request they supplied a kettle, cups and milk on a tray, which came with a little shooter glass of coloured jellybeans! We managed to plug the kettle in the bathroom, which had an enormous vanity with lots of room for our toiletry bags, plenty of lovely quality Bliss products in big bottles and lots of enormous thick towels. As we were on a full round the world trip, we had tons of baggage but the closet was also really big so we could spread out and even managed find items we had lost in our cases.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, in line with their signature W "anything/anytime" policy - restaurant recommendations, sightseeing, timing and distances. Free wifi internet in the ground floor breakfast restaurant and foyer/bar/coffee lounge, so take your laptop. (You pay for internet access in rooms, but plenty of room downstairs.) Pool area looked good but it was still a bit too cool when we were there in March. Beach also looked good for swimming in warmer weather.
The location is good - a pleasant short walk along the marina towards town uncovered a multitude of little harbourside restaurants, selling everything from paella to pizza and steak at good prices, and the local wine was pretty reasonable too. If you are too tired to walk after a busy day you only are a very short cheap taxi ride - 5 or 6 euros - to or from the main Old City area and Las Ramblas - the taxi drivers understand "Vella" (sail) better than "W Hotel".
We would love to return one day to spend more time exploring Barcelona and stay at this beautiful hotel again.

All the praise heaped upon this hotel is warranted. On my recent trip to Europe, this was the best hotel I stayed in. Nearly everything was perfect. Having expressing my assessment of the hotel, there are a few things I would point out.

First, the hotel is a ultra modern hotel, incorporating every modern and furturistic amenity possible. Because of that, if you are looking for a Eurpopean luxury hotel, this hotel is not for you. I also question if the hotel is kid friendly. The hotel has a wonderful pool and is right on the beach, but this hotel seems to have been built to cater to the needs of adults and not children. The fact that I saw very few children would seem to support my view..

Second, the hotel presents some problems sight-seeing in Barcelona. The hotel is located on a peninsula that is over a mile to the nearest metro stop (Barceloneta). Don't even think about arriving at the hotel with luggage from the Barceloneta Metro stop.

I usually explore European cities on my own by hopping on a nearby metro. The W Hotel makes that difficult because of the length of the walk to and from the metro stop. As and alternative, you can use a taxi or use any of three bus lines that run from the hotel to the nearest metro stop. While this is a a minor inconvenience, I thought that it is sometihing you might want to know.

My husband and I stayed at this fantastic hotel from 15-18 April. The hotel looks great on the web page but when you step inside it is quite amazing. We had a room on the 18th floor with the most fabulous view overlooking the beach and the city of Barcelona. Rooms are equipped to a very high standard and exrtremely quiet. Although the hotel is located in a quiet area near the port, the N°17 bus is leaving in front of the hotel and stops close to Plaza de Catalunya. The staff are very kind and extremely helpful. We shall definitely return to this hotel.

I was in Barcelona for a business meeting and stayed 4 nights at the W. I was pleasently surprised. Had a corner suite in the 19th floor(after refusing the room offered on the 4th). Room and view were spectacular. The only complaint was smell of cigarettes but they sprayed the roomquickly and often. The pool was very nice and roof bar a lot of fun. The service was great, with a large friendly staff, most of whom greated me by name after the 1st day. The only consideration would be the location. Having been to Barcelona several times,I didn't mind it but it is a bit out of the way. not really convenient if you want to pop in and out of the hotel. Great for a summer trip with pool and beach proximity.

What an amazing, beautiful facility. We were fortunate enough to stay at the W Barcelona for 4 days in March 2010. We upgraded to a 'Wow' room on the 18th floor. Walking into the room, you faced a full wall of floor to ceiling window looking to the left towards the Mediterranean and to the right towards Montujic. Although March was a little chilly, we shared some wonderful walks along the beach collecting ocean glass and shells. The staff was soooo friendly and helpful, that we truly felt like family and would talk as friends to them whenever we saw them. We have stayed at other W's in the past and one of the greatest pleasures is experiencing their restaurants. W Barcelona was no different, and the we shared some of the best meals of our visit there.
