“Absolutely fantastic hotel”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

I was absolutely amazed by the architecture of W Barcelona hotel when I arrived, it's a building from Roberto Bofill architect. Inside it's very modern and the design is beautiful.

W Barcelona is located at the very end of Barceloneta area. The location is very pleasant because it's really nice to be in front of the sea, but it's not in the center of Barcelona. The metro station is about 15-20 minutes walking, it's easier to take a taxi (hopefully taxis are not expensive in Spain).

My room was located on the 14th floor, very large, with a comfortable bed, top quality linens, some sofas in front of the window, a stunning view (see picture), a power shower , great design, probably one of the best hotel rooms i've stayed in. Curiously the wifi is not for free in the room, you have to go to the living room (lobby area) for free wifi.
The living room has plenty of sofas and a bar, it's a very nice place to relax at any time of the day.

Excellent buffet breakfast and food at Wave restaurant.

The weather was not good enough to swim, but the pool is quite small, it's more a bathing pool rather than a swimming pool (but you are in front of the beach if you want to swim).

On the 26th floor there is a bar and nightclub, Eclipse, very busy on weekend nights.

Overall it's a fantastic hotel with excellent service, one the nicest hotels where I've been.

Fantastic view, and nice rooms except for the lack of privacy(glass door for toilet). Was very good that the hotel has beach chairs reserved for hotel guests, as the beach can be very crowded, you are guaranteed a spot. Breakfast was average for such an up,market hotel, you had to pay extra if you wanted eggs. Nice pool, but you had to be quick to try and get a chair next to the pool. If you stay at this hotel on a Saturday night check if they have a party on in the pool area, I could hear the music in my room on the 15 th floor till 3am,and had to get earplugs. Check in and checkout was quite slow and we couldn't check in to our room till 9pm which was inconvenient but they upgraded my room to a fantastic room the next day, which was lovely.

Room Tip: Ask for a "fantastic" room , better view than the"wonderful" room. And ask for a...

We absolutely loved everything about the room with the exception of the toilet. There is no privacy at all and any other room occupants can hear (and almost see since the walls are frosted glass) everything! Also the room was pretty small. Couch was dirty but with one call was completely replaced. bed very, very comfy. I could lay on the couch all day and look at the ocean or people walking by below. Room decor was modern and functional, typical W look. Carpet in hallways is dated (red) and needs replacement and hallway painted. Food was excellent including room service. The one day I wanted to use the pool it was "closed to a private party." if you are paying close to $400 per night you should never be refused to use pool. Service in restaurant was slooooooow. Conceirge, bell boys, and front desk staff were very helpful and kind. Night Pool party was really fun! Nightclub upstairs was tiny and not worth it. Elevators can get really slow. Great location but we cabbed it everywhere.

This place is BIG; no HUGE, but it is a landmark, stuck out on it's own on the edge of La Barceloneta.
The service was brilliant, especially given the size of the hotel. The room was stunning, worth paying a tad more and getting a bigger room. We were on the 15th floor overlooking the harbour----the best views, like a film, watching the cruise ships come and go.
It looks isolated, it is but not so bad there are 3 busses to the centre or a10 min walk to where more is going on.
A couple of niggles: all across the Starwood chain (Sheraton, Westin etc) they charge for internet and it's expensive. It's free in the lobby but Oh SO Slow, that it was quicker using 3G. It is not afraid to charge, the drinks in the bar are expensive, the mini bar ---well imaginative, I added it up and if you did not care, you could spend over €200. Even the enticing little bottles of water aroun dthe room were €4.30.
The pool area(s) were nice, but the spa is also (you guessed it) an extra. I have been to Barcelona many many times and overall this is a different take on, a little less frenetic, a city beach hotel but easy to get to the action if you like.

Room Tip: Get a harbour view

I'm sure all the rooms views are spectacular, but we had a northern exposure looking over the pools, beach and city. We were lucky enough to get a room on the 23rd floor, and yes, the height makes a difference.

If we had one complaint, it'd be that the Eclipse night club on the 26th level get pretty loud on Friday and Saturday night. I have no idea how rooms on the 24-25th floor got any sleep?

Room Tip: Northern exposure on a high floor ( but not too high )

This is a hotel where service and cleanliness are at the top of the scale. We stayed there for a total of 3 nights, once before and then after a cruise and the settting is spectacular. Although we requested an early check in on both stays, only one was accommodated (second stay). The hotel made up for their inability to honour this request by asking us to relax in the bar with a complimentary beverage. In addition, when we checked in post-cruise, we were upgraded to a suite - talk about the wow factor! It's these perks that make up for a "miss" in a requested or expected service.

Was at the W for a conference last month. The hotel building stands out at one end of the Barcelona skyline. The funky lobby makes a cool impression when you enter. Had the usual delays at check-in since it was a big conference. Was totally blown away by the view when I entered the room. Endless view of the ocean and the port and twinkling lights of airplanes coming in for a landing at Barca airport. Whats more there was a really comfy lounger right by the window with a really cool drinks tray on it. It was so tempting to sit and have a drink there and admire the view, so I popped open the 20 euro miniature of Belvedere Vodka. Was totally worth it. The rooms are really comfy. The toilet is quite funky with glass partitions and the basin is in the room area. Not so good if you're sharing the room with another guy!
The service at the hotel was exemplary all round. Two bars in the hotel are very happening and the meals were quite good too. Must stay again when I return to Barcelona.

Room Tip: Although both sides have great views ask for a room on the east side if would like to see planes lan...

Dear Maniish,

Thank you for having taken your time to submit us your feedback on the occasion of a conference taking place at our hotel.

I am very glad that we could give you an enjoyable stay at W Barcelona. As you have mention what else one wants that enjoying a Belvedere Vodka seating by the window while admiring the view over the city/beach or the harbor....and the planes landing or the cruises arriving or departing..

Thank you once again for taking the time to share your comments and we hope to have you back soon!
