“Nice food, not wildly authentic”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2013

Unlike another review, we found the margueritas to be quite strong and delicious. The guacomole was excellent. The quesadillas were very different from others we have had (and perhaps not very Mexican) and they didn't come with refried beans and rice which is unusual. They did have nice vegetarian fillings. There were three on the plate and each one had a different filling. This restaurant is in Gracia, a really nice funky area with interesting bars, shops and restuarants. One advantage of Machito is that is is open early. That gap between the shops shutting and the resturants opening can be hard to fill if you are a tired, cold tourist! We actually ate here about 7pm

“The drinks here are so bad and expensive”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

7 euros for a premade margarita and 4 for a bad red wine!? This must be the most expensive place in Barcelona, I'll never go there again.

“We wanted Mexican food and we were satisfied”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

I had a chorizo fondue with tortillas and my wife and chicken tostadas with plenty of veggies and avocados. The staff was very accommodating and nice. The decor was very Mexican so I felt good. They three different salsas on the table to put on your taco or your meal. Overall, considering we've lived in San Diego for 8 years and now in Europe for 6, I was happy to have some good Mexican food.

“Actual mexican food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

This is not the typical tex mex restaurant. It is a real mexican restaurant, with actual mexican food. Delicious stuff!!

“Bit too expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

I visited Cantina Machito with friends, as we were doing the Ruta de Altares and the restaurant had a special 'Dia de los Muertos' menu. I wasn't very impressed.
First off, the staff seemed very junior and were unable to explain some of the dishes on the special menu or make recommendations. We had some great starters, but the main dishes were only average. I had the Enchiladas Placeras, and they were quite bland - and also not very warm. I expected a lot more, especially if you're putting together a special menu and charge around €90 for a 4-person dinner.
