“great place”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

First off let me say I was a bit put-off by the building front. It was a random door in a row of shops. But once inside it was a lovely townhouse with beautiful furnishings and a very welcoming host. Siri made the entire stay in Barcelona a pleasure with his company and suggestions. The bed was very comfortable and the atmosphere clean and bright. We loved the fresh whole grain croissants for breakfast! Barcelona is a not to be missed city and we would come back in a heartbeat.

After researching dozens of options in Barcelona, we chose to stay at Casa de Billy. Prior to our arrival, and last minute date modifications we were accommodated without a problem and helpful suggestions were offered. All the reviews mention the wonderful staff and we'd have to agree.

We arrived in Barcelona in mid June, 2013, for an eight day stay. The Aerobus from the airport dropped us at Placa Espana just 2 blocks away. We made our way to an unassuming doorway on Gran Via, one of the main streets in Barcelona. We rang the bell and were buzzed in. A small elevator took us up 2 flights to the 1st floor where Siri greeted us with a huge smile and a warm welcome. Siri became our guardian angel as well as co-host along with Joaquin, who manages the 4th & 5th floor, Billy Cross, the owner and Mona his adorable French Bulldog. Casa de Billy offers a comfortable atmosphere, is absolutely spotless and tastefully furnished with antique and vintage decor. If you're looking for a modern room with a flat screen TV and room service, this is not your place.

A continental breakfast was set formally every morning offering fresh croissants, assorted jams, orange juice and fresh brewed coffee/tea. We enjoyed adding fruit that we bought at the market and loved meeting the other guests, something you don't get in a hotel.

Siri was simply the best! He graciously answered our questions, the information was accurate and helpful and his hospitality was greatly appreciated. We had suite "J" which was adjacent to the dining room and had it's own bathroom en suite. It was quiet and opened up to a common sitting area with large airy windows which no one used except us. It felt as if we had our own apartment.

We would recommend Casa de Billy with no reluctance or hesitation, it's a wonderful place. Convenient location, easy to get around- walking or metro. If you go, give our best to Siri and company! -Bert & Rosemary

Room Tip: Casa de Billy is located in a neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Get out and...

we stayed here for 3 nights, the locations is close to the Plaza Espagna. the magic fountain and the art museum is like a 5 minutes walk. you can also walk to La Rambla but its a little farther away (~30 min) the metro stations are very close. we took the Airport buses to Plaza Espagna and walked to the B&B.we were in Room G, our bathroom was down the hallway but private. there was a note on the door of the bathroom asking the other guests not to use it! the rooms are quite big but very close to each other the house is very well decorated and clean in general. the bathroom was old but clean. I didn't trust the towels cause they had stains on them and smelled bad. the room that we were in had a window to the busy street of Gran VIa so it was very very very noisy at night. I couldn't sleep at all on the first night and I'm a easy sleeper. there is an old, loud air conditioner in the room but it works well. all in all I don't think the owner spends a lot of money maintaining this place and I think for $105/night you can probably find a B&B in a better location (more quiet). in the morning you get a cup of coffee, a hole grain croissant and some little jam for breakfast.

Room Tip: try to get a room on the other side of the building which doesn't face the Garn Via.

We have stayed her twice in 2012. Very nice building, closely to plaza espana. Different comfortable rooms available, depending on your budget. You can choose either private or shared bathrooms. We have chosen private and that works out fine. Nice small, affordable biking rental company around the corner. Joaquim is a great guy and makes you feel at home.

I love this place and have stayed here twice now and will again if I go back to Barcelona. Joachim and Siri are so friendly and helpful with great knowledge of Barcelona. The beds have very good linen and are REALLY comfortable and the whole place is very clean and quiet. The interior decoration is very unique and beautiful which gives great ambience. The croissant at breakfast was easily the best I have had outside France.
There is also a lift for those who dont like stairs and a kitchen and fridge for those who dont like to eat out all the time.

Stayed 4 nights at Casa de Billy and have only positive things to say . Siri was especially helpful .Following his suggestions, we left in the morning ready for a well planned day . The house is nothing extravagant but it fits the bill for someone who wants a good night sleep to pursue activities during the day .Thanks a lot

The best thing about Casa Billy is its location. It's near to the Arena which has been converted a mall with plenty of restuarants, with a fantastic view at the rooftop. It is also near to the metro station and makes moving around very easy.
We arrived early at about 10 in the morning. Nonetheless, Joaquime had the room ready for us. We greatly appreciate that. The decor of the guesthouse is ornate, boroque, flashy. In summary, flamboyant! I guess it reflects the personality of the host, Joaquime. He's a very helpful chap, together with another guy Billy. We took a room with a shared bathroom. It wasn't an issue as there were only 3guests, including the 2 of us, on that particular floor and the shared bathroom was always clean and available. The room itself has a smell of dampness, maybe because of the carpet. We just opened the window and it was fine. There's also a shared sitting room and a courtyard and a pantry where breakfast is served and coffee and tea are available all day. But we didn't really make use of the facilities as we were out the whole day. Free WIFI is available. Our room faces the street but it wasn't noisy although we left window open at night.
The breakfast is not filling as it only comprise a croissant, coffee and juice. But I must say that the mutiigrain croissant tastes wonderful.

Definitely will recommend this guesthouse.
