Very good location between harbour and old center. Clean but rather small rooms. Slamming doors could keep you awake. Nice personnel. We missed a cosy lobby. Breakfast: good food but should improve the drinking.

Room Tip: Choose for a room at the front facade.

My wife and I have recently returned from a four night stay at the Hotel del Mar.
We picked it on price, location and its consistently good ‘write-ups’ and we were not disappointed.
The hotel generally was in good order and clean, as was our room. This was adequately furnished and had opening French doors onto a small balcony, overlooking the Marina.
Although renovation work was going on in the building adjoining the hotel, approximately between the hours of 08.00 and 18.00, it caused us no problems.
The aircon worked well enough, though the television had nothing worth watching.
We used the room safe which cost 2 euros per day.
On the day of leaving, being early, we had breakfast for two in the hotel, which cost, with tax, 30.80 euros, including tax. The food was fine with a good choice but was expensive. Needless to say we had up until then breakfasted at one of the many local cafés.
Buses stop outside the hotel, the Metro and Barcelona Franca Station are only minutes away, as are the ‘Hop on Hop off’ tour buses.
Being on a budget we bought one T10 ticket between us which we used on the airport train, both into Barcelona and on the return to the Airport. This was good value as it left us with three other journeys each around town, all for just under 10 euros.
I must clarify our journey into Barcelona, we left the Airport train at Barcelona-Sants Station, then changed onto the train to Barcelona Franca Station. Turning left out of Franca Station it is only five to ten minutes walk to the hotel.

Stayed 3 nights at the end of March.
Easy to get to from airport-close to Barcelonetta metro stop and to railway station. Easy walking to Port area,Las Ramblas and the Gothic section.
Hotel itself rather run down, smell coming from bathroom drain
and hotel fronts a very busy square and traffic was noisy through the night to the point that had to change rooms to one at the back for the last 2 nights. No view at all but much quieter.
Staff polite and helpful.
At the end of a 4 week trip to southern France and this was the only hotel that did not offer free WiFi in the room.

Lovely hotel, near to the Marina, Beach, Cathedral, La Ramblas all within very easy walking distance. Very clean and well kept modern hotel, slight foul smell coming from drains in bathroom but not enough to warrant a change of room. They could do with looking into it though. We asked and received a room with a balcony overlooking the square, and it was lovely to stand there late at night and watch the world pass by.

We didn't partake of the breakfast as there are lots of cafe's nearby and much better value.

The bald man mentioned in previous posts, on Reception needs to get some more customer care training! The rest of the staff were very pleasant.

All in all, a lovely hotel, in a nice quieter location than the Ramblas which is pretty mental most of the time.

Room Tip: ask for a balcony room on third or fourth floor. I heard that some rooms don't have windows?

Stayed at the del mar over easter and couldn't of asked for more! Polite service at the reception and asked for a room with a terrace, (after reading a review on here!) which we got overlooking the harbour which was lovely. Really good location, just 10 mins walk to the nearest beach and just 10 mins from la ramblas and the gothic quarter. When it came to leaving for an early flight, the hotel gave us a prompt alarm call and arranged a taxi for us. The only downside for us was there was a smell coming from the bathroom drains most of the time and a huge crane on the roof kept moving positions, even in the evening, which over a easter weekend seemed a bit freaky.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a terrace!

We booked this hotel for a short city break of 3 nights. The hotel was kept very clean and the receptionist was helpful and polite. We were booked into a twin room as we were told there were no double rooms available, however was pleasantly surprised when offered an upgrade to double on arrival. The room was comfy, and had an excellent shower and bathroom. We faced the square, which was a bit noisy at night, but only till midnight then the traffic seemed quieter. We also had a small balcony which was nice. The breakfast was very basic, not the best, but satisfactory. The hotel is very central, just a short walk from the Gothic quarter, the beach and the port. The bus stop for sightseeing is just across the road too. A great stay for a short break to the city!
