“Modern and clean but out of town”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

Pros:
Large suit, with seperate door to bedroom
Very quiet and black out curtains, so slept well
Large bathroom with powerful shower
Plenty of hot water
Hair dryer
Good TV's with USB slots
Space to work
Very light thanks to large windows
Free WIFI, wasn't fast but I've had worse
Out of town but on L1 so can access centre
Staff were polite and helpful
Individual AC control for each room

Cons:
Not a good spot if you are accessing the Fira Gran Via de Barcelona - 40/45 minutes journey time
Lots of choice for breakfast but the options for hot food were limited and unfortunately were not really that hot
Room service was limited to a few options, those I had seemed edible but nothing special
Literally nothing in walking distance apart from the Sonera Sports bar
Limited TV channels - only BBC World News for English
No Tea/coffee making facilites
Kitchen but no kitchen items - not even cutlery
Room view; I could actually see the Sagrada Familia and the Monserat. (Room 404)

Conclusion:
I would stay here again but not if I had to get across town to the Fira Gran Via as its a long journey. The space was great and made it feel like a home from home.

Room Tip: Rooms on the left will likely have a view of the Sagrada Familia and Monserat on the hill.

I stayed in a family room and it was spacious and well-furnished. The hotel was very clean and staff was brilliant and helpful. I didnt use any of the facilities except the wifi which was great and free. This is definately going to be my hotel everytime i visit barcelona. The only letdown is that its located a bit further to the center of the city, however i didnt mind that because of the easy transport in barcelona. I loved it

Nice hotel, good-sized comfortable room, handy for the metro and a 20 minute walk to the sea. We didn't try the breakfast as there are plenty of cafes near the Auditori (just round the corner from the hotel).

We spent 2 nights at this hotel, 1 night pre-cruise and 1 night post-cruise. When we left for our cruise we requested the same room for our post-cruise stay. We arrived back at the hotel around 8am assuming we would just be able to leave our luggage as it was so early. However, we were told on arrival that our 'usual room' was ready for us, which was really nice. On this occasion we also had time to find out how easy it was to get to Las Ramblas from here. The station is around the corner and then 3 stops will get you to the top of Rambla, making this a very well placed hotel at a reasonble cost.

We recently stayed at Porta Marina Hotel. To our surprise, we were upgraded to a suite, which included a separate bedroom, a living room with sleeper sofa, a big table, wi-fi, microwave, small fridge and a cooktop. The room was very nice and the hotel was very clean. Despite the availability of cooking facilities, they did not provide cookware and do not permit cooking. We did use the microwave for heating. The bed was very firm, but not uncomfortable. The desk staff was very helpful by providing directions, arranging taxis and selling discounted tickets for the Red Double Decker Tour bus. The bus tour is a great way to get an overview of the city, with the ability to hop on and off at various sites. The hotel is a five minute walk from to the red or yellow metro line, giving quick access to the entire city.
As for other posts about the noise from adjacent student housing, we heard very little noise and our room even faced the residence hall. Our son is living in the residence hall during his study abroad. The hotel was very convenient while we visited him. We would highly recommend this hotel to other parents of students.
Our stay was very comfortable. In fact, we stayed for one weekend, left town during the school week, and returned to the hotel the following weekend.

The positives of the hotel are that it is new, clean and the front desk staff are polite and speak good English. On the negative side the hotel is in a deprived run down area of Barcelona, with little to offer a tourist. The bedroom whilst clean and modern has a fluorescent light above the door which is on 24/7 (assume to laminate the escape route if required), but if you like a dark room you need eyeshades. Even if you do the main problem is not so easy to overcome, as the hotel is a few yards from a large student accommodation block, the students spent the whole hours of darkness shouting to each other incessantly.

Its rare to find a hotel room with adequate storage and closet space for international travelers. Plenty of room for our cases, toiletries and clothes - did not feel like we were living out of a suitcase. Great view of the mountains from our large room - but - be aware on the weekends there is a pub nearby and the noise goes into the wee hours. Earplugs required! Very quiet during the week. Good breakfast - good restaurants nearby and very close to the metro. Great english-speaking staff helped us book tourist activities.

Room Tip: If staying on weekends, ask for a room off the street.
