“Nice, clean Hotel in a quiet area”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

We stayed at the Apsis Porta Marina Hotel for 3 nights. Rooms are very spacious, with a large bedroom, living area (with large sofa bed) and a kitchen with a table. TVs in the bedroom and in the living area were quite nice to have. Although equipped with kitchen sink, microwave, hob etc., there were no utensils, not even a kettle to have some tea/coffee...so it proved quite useless. Room was spotlessly cleaned every day. Service was great, and when we asked for extra pillows, these were immediately provided. It is situated in a very quiet area of Barcelona, yet still very close to the centre with the Marina Metro close by and only 3 stops away from Placa Catalunya, making it very accessible to anywhere you want. The only complaint is that we could hear every "noise" in the room next door, and at 2.00 a.m. it was quite irritating. I cannot comment about the breakfast, since we opted out of this as at €12 p/p per day, we considered it quite expensive. I recommend this hotel and would gladly come back.

Room Tip: Our room was overlooking the courtyard, and no noise could be heard from the outside.

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights and found the location great, right near the Marina metro stop and in a safe area where people mill about even late at night, so it is never deserted. It could not be easier to get there on the airport bus and then 3 stops on the red metro line. The staff are all excellent and did everything they possibly could to accommodate our needs. The rooms are lovely, with huge beds, and are cleaned frequently. It was, in short, a perfect stay with the minor problem of the noise, which is caused by overseas language students staying at the nearby Melon District, who congregate very loudly near the hotel between about 1-5 am on Thursday-Sunday nights before returning to their rooms. We were in room 310, which is located neatest the noise. After one night's disturbed sleep we used earplugs and slept peacefully from then on, so my advice would be to go prepared just in case. Otherwise, I would not have a single complaint.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel

We used this hotel for an overnight stay after a cruise. There were 6 of us in 3 rooms and we arrived at 0930hrs to leave our luggage but were delighted when the receptionist told us she had arranged for us to have our rooms there and then.

The rooms were on the ground floor and had a living / kitchen area bedroom and large bathroom.

The hotel is basic but clean and comfortable and handy for the Metro, although next to the hotel iare several funeral parlours so there are a lot of funerals passing the front door of the hotel.

An ideal hotel for anyone visiting the city on a budget.

Room Tip: Ground floor is handy if you have heavy cases

I have just returned from Barcelona and I confirm opinion of other travellers. Very clean, excellent for 'city breaks' etc. We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel but in the meloncafe - 30m away (ok., but there are also cafeteria for locals near metro station Marina - we didn't try). When you get off the metro station Marina first time - don't go in direction to the sea (downhill), but turn back to direction of Sagrada Familia (sligthly uphill), go about 100 metres and turn to the right at 45 degree. Next 200 metres and you are in the hotel. I have used Google Street View to see location but in the reality it looks sligthly better. (Constructiones near the hotel look to be stopped by the crises). Location is very good if you want think about Barcelona beach. But first check time of your departure - if it is around 7 a.m. choose better hotel near Catalunya Pl. - Aerobus starts at 5.30 -(30 min. for getting to the airport). It could create some problems.

We stayed here for one night pre- cruise in April. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the staff very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was fine and seemed like value for money and we had lovely coffee brought by room service in the morning. There were some noise issues at night but this has not stopped us from booking 2 more nights there in September.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights recently and was very happy with the standard of the rooms, and the courtesy of the staff; all appeared to speak English. Travelling alone i had a large double room, large bed, large batroom, and a lounge area with 2 armchairs.

I was initially dissappointed with the lcation; quite and nothing much happening there - but we "cannot have it everyway!" But once i got used to the Metro (3 minutes walk away) it was just a short hop to Plaze Catalunya, and to other locations. Also Sagrada Familia, Gothic Quarter, Marina & beach are within walking distance. It appears to be a commercial area, but very safe and well lit at night.

Free WiFI. Very good breakfast (hot and cold food) for €12, or you could go to to the cafe on the corner for something cheaper.

Altogether, a satisifying experience.

Our family of four has just returned from a three night stay at the Apsis Porta Marina. The hotel was perfect for us, very clean with friendly, English speaking staff. We had a 'quad' room which was large and actually more like a mini apartment. We didn't eat there but found an excellent cafe around the corner called 'Melon' which does a decent continental breakfast for a few euros. The area suited us perfectly. You can walk to the beach at Barceloneta in about 25 minutes and about the same to the Gothic Quarter/Placa de Catalunya etc, or, of course there is the Metro about 5 minutes away. I liked the fact that it was slightly away from the tourist areas. The area felt VERY SAFE for those worried about petty crime. We walked back to the hotel very late each evening and never felt any danger whatsoever.
