“amazing modernista architecture”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2014

We had rented an apartment on Avenguda de Gaudi in order to visit the Sagrada Familia, but we were overwhelmed by the much less known Hospital de Sant Pau, Domenich-Montaner's answer to Gaudi's Temple. Not to miss for modernista lovers!

“We walked into something fantastic!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2014

We were just walking and bumped into this very interesting gated complex. Google Maps said it was a hospital but it looked more like an old town.

When trying to walk through we found the ticket booth to purchase tickets €10 at the time of this review.

It in fact is a hospital but so art and architecturally rich, that no one would have guessed.

The tour was great and the guide was really informative. Some parts of the site are closed due to restoration efforts but what you will see is amazing.

It would in my opinion a must see in Barcelona.

“Under reconstruction”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

Though surrounded by trucks, workmen and all the paraphenalia of major refurbishment, it is still possible to see the beauty that lies within. Just viewing the roofs of the various buildings is a pleasure. Sadly, once restored to its former glory, it will be home to various bearocracies.
There may be tours available, but check the times.
When you visit, don't confuse it with the hospital (for sick people) nearby.

“A real gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2013 via mobile

This is just brilliant! Last time I was in Barcelona this was a functioning hospital so you could wander around the grounds but not go into the buildings. It is now being renovated as a UN building and during the works guided tours are available which take you into the pavilions - one of which will be renovated for tourists to visit! But it's brilliant as it is and as I didn't know tours were available is was a great addition to the visit!!!

“Marvelous Architecture”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2013

A fabulous building complex designed by the Catalan modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner.

The hospital is currently under a massive restoration. The buildings are surrounded by a fence. So I could not have the chance to admire it in its complete beauty. Fortunately, the beautiful architectures could still be observed from a distance. You can go through the Sant Rafael block and the courtyard by participating a guided tour (6 euro). However, still could not get into the other buildings.

Don’t miss this marvelous attraction when the restoration completed.
