“Worst hostel ever - Don't go there!”
Reviewed September 21, 2010

This hostel is the most terrible place I´ve ever been to and I've been to many hostels. The rooms are dirty: there were bugs in the beds, the sheets had stains and the floor was dirty. The stuff was incompetent. The person at the front desk didn't even speak english - only spanish - very helpful as a tourist... And the worst thing during our stay was when they checked us out while we were in the city. They put all our things out of the room without telling us. So when we arrived at the hostel and wanted to go into our room to spend there the last booked night (which was already paid by us) the room was closed and our clothes etc. were in a filthy storage room - just because they got something wrong with our reservation.
The only good thing about this place is the location, but it's not worth all the troubles you get there. So if you want to enjoy your stay in the beautiful town of barcelona don't go there!!!

Hostel Lenin is cheap and close to the centre. If this is all you need, then it might work for you. However, if you want to sleep at night, this is not the best choice.
Our private bedroom for two was basic but fine. The room was clean enough, has a bed, a fan and pretty much nothing else - there wouldn't be room for anything else, for that matter. Don't try to plug or unplug anything, unless you know how to reassemble the socket.
The bathroom was absolutely hilarious and would match a more upscale hotel like the Hilton as well. There is a panel in the wall with about 15 buttons to operate the three shower heads from above and about six from the front. For lack of a manual, I operated the shower in a trial and error fashion, which was fun, but I cannot say I had much control over the direction and temperature of the water...

The hostel has thin walls, which is common in old buildings, and does not have to be a problem. And I certainly don't mind if a place isn't completely silent - footsteps, the occasional closing door, running water or a soft spoken conversation in the next room don't bother me at all. But the noise in Lenin really, really did.
One group came in around 4.30 in the morning, and rather than tip toe to their room, these boys felt it necessary to stampede up the stairs (then down the stairs, then up the stairs), clap their hands, sing, shout, and slam doors.

About an hour later, another group were getting up. They also didn't feel the need to keep it quiet - the girls were talking to each other for at least half an hour - through the walls.

May be our night just happened to be a noisy one and guests on other nights are more considerate, but the fact that there is no staff over night and there is not even a sign asking you to consider the neighbors or keep it quiet at night, sugests that noise is not an issue in Hostel Lenin. If you care for a good night rest, don't go here.

I stayed at Lenin hostel with my two friends for 6 nights and I can't really complain. We had a room with 3 beds and there is 3 bathrooms to share with the other hostel guests. The bathrooms were not that great but we were okay with that because we didn't expect that much in the first place. The location is perfect - near the subway station and Las Ramblas. The walls of the rooms are quite thin and you can hear the traffic inside quite easily but we didn't find it too disturbing because our neighbours weren't that noizy. There is a kitchen, free Internet connection in the hostel and bedsheets and towels can be found in the room. The staff is really friendly and helpful, the lady in the reception doesn't speak English but a younger guy does. I can definitely recommend this place to people who don't expect luxury from their hostel!!

stayed for 3 nights, got double room with bathroom, everything was clean, there is a kitchen in a hostel but we didn't use it, excellent location (very close to Las Ramblas), there are thin walls and floors in a building, but it didn't bother us much as neighbours were not noisy. there is a supermarket 10 min walk, but hard to find, so better ask. the only annoying thing was the lady in a reception didn't speak any english.
Important advice about visiting Barcelona: take big bag of money!

The location is truly excellent next to a really expensive shopping street with Gucci shops etc. This makes it very safe. Problem is, it also makes it rathjer expensive... the nearest supermarket was a 5 min walk and not cheap!
The hostel can be difficult to locate. Check round google and you see a photo of it's exterier, very useful otherwise you miss it!
The receptionist spoke no english, (no big deal)
The rooms were cosy but felt like a prison cell.
My wife and I got a double room and we were both bitten by bed bugs.
The shared bathrooms were ok, showers left a lot to be desired but the water was hot 24/7 so i cant complaint.
If you are lucky, you will get a great view overlooking the street... Amazing!
If you want to see the room, the hostel and the trip to the street, go to you tube and search for lenin hostel barcelona...
