First things first. Great location, honestly couldn't ask for better. Picasso was clean, if a little rundown, and the staff were friendly. Price is fairly tops too. However, (and what a however!) the alley next to the rooms is home to a busy, noisy bar that is open until the street cleaners turn up for a mornings work, and the heat in the rooms is scarcely believable, and it really comes down to whether you would be rather not sleeping because of the heat, or not sleeping because of the noise. A ceiling fan would honestly have added one or two stars to this reveiw, I cannot understate the temperature or the level of noise.

Room Tip: The single rooms not on the alley would probably be much better.

Great location for centrality but all the sounds of La Rambla are sucked into an alley next to the hostel and then amplified. You get about 10 mins peace a night at around 7am. Other than that, clean and convenient.

We actually booked to stay at a completely different pension in Barcelona, but after arriving late at night and lugging our suitcase up flights of stairs, we were told there was a 'problem' with our booking and that we were actually staying in Pension Picasso. We were handed 5 Euros and told where to get a taxi and sent off to this place instead. More stairs, and we were finally given our room for the night. Granted, they reduced the price because we had to share bathroom and toilet facilities with everyone else on the same floor, but the room was soulless, basic and unbelievably noisy! We chose not to stay on Las Ramblas because we wanted a quiet night's sleep but here we were right in the middle of the party which lasted all night.... We barely slept and then were deeply unamused to have to wait to use the one broken shower (with varying degrees of water temperature) the following morning. If we hadn't had to pay for our three nights' stay up front we'd have been out of there like a greyhound out of a trap the following morning.

I remembered seeing this pension on the booking website when we originally booked our room and agreeing with my friend that we really didn't want to stay there, and now I know why. Never again.....

One thing I will say is that the place was clean and the service was good - but it didn't make up for the other points.

Room Tip: Don't bother

great location, very central, lovely staff. you pay for what you get, cheap and cheerful. but pretty clean.
if you can make sure you get a room with a balcony, its very entertaining to watch over la rambla...

Due to a change of date for the Barcelona game and a lack of availiability in the city due to a Mobile Phone Conference we were forced to stay here for the first day of the break.
The price was inflated due to the Conference to which I actually give the hotel credit for knowing the basics of supply and demand, although even as a stop gap I was not impressed!
There was nothing wrong with the cleanliness of the place but it really did feel like I was trapped in a Prison for the night. Run down and a sense of relief to be leaving. BUT, it did the job for one night altough I would of flown home on day 1 if my whole break was to spent there.

We stayed here for 3 nights only, but if we hadn't have to pay the full amount in cash upon arrival we would have left after the first night. The place is pretty run down, the shared bathrooms shabby.
We thought that considering it's closeness to La Rambla the place was really quiet, our window looked out to a dirty concrete spur in the wall, full with thrown-away garbage and pigeon feces. That would have been ok, since we did not plan on staying in the room during daylight. But the small alley right under our window turned out to be a popular drinking spot for young Italian school groups. Falling asleep before 4 in the morning was impossible, even with the help of ear plugs, the noise was horrible!!
We complained after the first night but were denied a different room, and no staff member even seemed to show sympathy or to try to improve our situation, so we had to put up with that room and the noise for the rest of our stay.

I love Barcelona and have been there several times; this was by far the worst accommodation I stayed at, you can find plenty of good ones equally centrally located!

the hostel was in a great location, clean enough, good bed and cheap, the only thing i can say is that some of the staff were not the most friendly of people.but overall although i was there only for one day it was pleasant enough.
