“A gem in the heart of the Gothic District”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2012

We Traveled in a group of ten. We originally booked a less expensive apartment, however the management notified us that they overbooked it. To compensate they offered us the Avino Apartment. Upon enetering you are blown away my size, the charm, and the character of the apartment. Huge high molded ceilings, esquisit features everything. You can really feel the history in this place! We used four bedrooms including the suite. Everything was spotless, clean and beautiful. The beds are very large and comfortable, and the bathrooms large and spotless as well. We all particularly enjoyed the balcony that extended over three bedrooms and the main room. The kitchen has everything you need in order to cook and little or as much as you would like. I really couldn't say anything bad about the apartment. The only problem we had where the pick pocketers right outside the apartment. Although they attempted to steal from us we caught them in the act and where unsuccessful. However, watching them from the balcony they did steal probably 10-20 purses and wallets from unsuspecting people.

Room Tip: Keep your valuables inside and everything you must take well guarded. A lot of petty crime in the Go...

Dear guest,

We are truly flattered about your comment and the same time proud to have made your stay so pleasant. As for the unhappy incident with the pick pocketers, we are very sorry... Thank goodness you were able to catch them and didn't suffer any loss. Being such a great tourist attraction, Barcelona's centre may be an easy target for this kind of dishonest people. However, most of the big cities in Europe have their share of criminality and unfortunately Barcelona is not an exception.

Thank you again for your kind words! We are waiting for you to come back and visit us!

Best regards,

There were 9 of us going to Barcelona so either we would end up in a dorm, in three or four different rooms, in different hotels - or in an apartment! We thought it'd be hard to find a large enough apartment but Avino really was great.
The apartment had 3 double bedrooms and 1 single room. In each double they had given us an extra fold out bed, but the beds were large enough to sleep 3 so we didn't even need the spare beds!
Each bedroom had its own ensuite which was awesome, there were never a queue for the shower, which is great after a day on the beach.
We had our own kitchen which was perfect for breakfasts together. There was a large dining table in the living room, plus a small sofa and a TV. The apartment is beautifully done, the beds are pretty and the bathrooms are wonderful.
The location is also great, it's so close to Las Ramblas, Plaza Cataluña, and it's in the middle of the old quarter which means there are loads of restaurants and shops nearby. There's a couple of metro stations just a few blocks away. It's also close to the harbor, and we walked alongside it to the beach a few of those hot days.

On the negative side:
Not all rooms had windows, but that was fine due to good AC.
There was no washing powder for the dish washer, so we did the dishes by hand.
The single bedroom has no AC so it gets really hot. We put a fan in there, but it was still hot, so the guy in there had to keep his door open at night, just to get some air in there. He managed, but it would have been great to use the space in his room for an extra bed, which with the heat problem was impossible.
There wasn't soap in every bathroom.
Since it's in a regular apartment building we had to be real quiet after ten at night. It's not very soundproof (it's not like we had parties in there, we just wanted to be able to talk - when you're a group of 9 it's nice to be able to just hang out!) so that's a downside.
It was hard to find the location, since there was no sign on the entrance door.
We had a large patio but weren't allowed to use it. No explanation why, I'm afraid.

On the positive side:
It was plenty of space for 9 people! And 4 bathrooms to ourselves is almost unbelieveable.
The service was great, Kathrina was real nice.
Location, location, location! Walking distance to everything - super market, bars, shops, metro.

We stayed in the Gaudi apartment which was wonderful, but were adviced to stay in the Dalí apartment next time, since it's supposed to be even bigger! Hard to believe.
This hotel is awesome for a large group of friends, or a family would be happy here. I would say it's ideal to stay 6 people here, but it worked out great for us to be 9.
We would definately book this apartment again and we recommend this place to everyone!

The breakfast is great here. Our suite room is big and clean, it comes with a good size of bathroom, however, there is no safe here, or else is more perfect! The housekeeper - Carina is very nice. She worked in Hong Kong before she came to Barcelona, therefore, it's nice to see someone who know where we are from! Anyway, they restored the place original characteristic I really like the place so much, hope that they will add the safe in each room when we revisit their place next time!

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2008

Hi there people...

After a lot of thought my partner booked this hotel...as we too could not find ANY reviews...

we visted from 8-11 sept 2008

I'll start from the beginning.

First of all...there are no door numbers on that street and the 'hotel' has no sign what so ever. so i will help them with that...the door for the 'hotel' is opposite the ADDIDAS shop.

Two big Wooden doors which leed to apartments. It is a private apparment on the first floor- which has been newly refurbished and looks great.

It seems to be a small business which is just starting up...the reception area etc is still being done downstair..should not affect anyone as is out the way...once your in the building and up the lift.. an in you rooms....it looked like we were the first to be there BUT the lady did say a few other had also been...

(we pepped a view of the other rooms with the lady that greeted us. so seen most of teh rooms..to compare why we paid more for ours)

The only two rooms of fair size that I'd seen were the Golden Star and the Heaven Blue(which we were in) the others were fairly small. esp the red room..way too small..

The Heaven Blue room in which we stayed was nice. very big.. (the biggest on he floor) and the bathroom was big too.

With every new business they were missing a few things which we mentions has and when needed.. IE hair dryer, soap... etc minor...

It was a shame there were no radios or small tvs in the bedrooms...(but i guess most rooms were to small to have these... as it would have been nice not to leave your room...

The kitchen is still as new.. as you'd expect as everyone prefers to eat out.... there is a tv in the dinner and study rooms...with a few english channels..(mtv)

Breakfast provided from 8am till noon.. a very decent selection of breads, jams, juices, cheese's, eggs, tea, coffee etc (vary's)
BUT... you help yourself, it's left out for you on a side table- you make it/eat it and leave it.(the kind lady will clean it up after)

To be fair I myself would say this is a first floor flat (big appartment) in which the rooms have been coverted into these 5-6 bedrooms.

The balcony is small about 50cm out if that..and is joined with the other rooms..on the main face.. ie..blue, golden and bronze..

There is no real terrace with chairs etc. as a couple found out that were from essex...there is an enclosed space inbetween the buildings.
..prob 4m X 4m square..but because the building is tall..you will not get direct sunlight there.. although it is warm...(shame)

The Lady that greeted us speaked excellent english..so should not have a problem...

The hotel (apartment) is but a few minutes..(2-3) slow walk from the ramblers..the turning were KFC and MacDonald is on the Ramblers.. easy wasy to find your way home.

Note if you get the front rooms...there is slight renovation work on the opposite building...we had builders looking through the window straight in to our room...they could see right in when we left the doors open...so that was a shame that we could not leave the shutters open...also there are other apartments opposite full of locals...so any of the from rooms will have this issue...where opposite appartmenst will be over looking these rooms.

There are no safes in any rooms either..you may have a cupboard which locks..which they will give you a key for.. but ours did not lock in the the blue room...and that was the best room they had..???

The builders start EARLY.. ok for me as i'm up early at 7ish and about... but other wise a fair bit of noise in the day too... whilst work is on... which i guess they could have mentioned... as we emailed a few times...

Towels are PROVIDED in each room and chgd daily.. also they will as if it is ok to clean your room... which they did...(bed's- towels- sink) or maybe only certain rooms... but when we were there she asked most people who came. Most rooms have WORKING aircon.

Please note that in YOUR ROOM all you will have is a bed, cupboard and bathroom..(shower toilet sink)... the rest is shared.. ie tv microwave coffee/tea maker(kettle), Refrigerator,Television, Terrace, Toaster

The service was Good no doubt.. all in all a pleasant stay apart form the work across the road..and downstairs.

But they need a sign outside that's for sure. Also i think that you're paying for the old featured effect in the rooms and ceilings..*historic meets modern* plus the fact that you're on the doorstep of the Ramblers. Maybe a 3 star at the momment... but won't be long till things are done (buildling work) and things quite down.

HOPE THIS HELPS ALL YOU THAT ARE LOOKING FOR REVIEW ON THIS PLACE.

  • Liked — newly refurbished, old theme with new, close to ramblers
  • Disliked — apartment is complete but building work d/stairs entrance plus across road, no safes, phones
