“Good Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

The only gripe we had was the noise level right into the early morning hours.... pedestrians sneezing, babies crying, people laughing could be heard all the way up to the 8th floor where our room was. We stayed here cos the rates were very competitive. Booked a junior suite which was very spacious. Furnishings were decent but not exactly top of the range. Without doubt, the location is unbeatable. It is a convenient walk to the throughfare on La Rambla. It´s a fun hotel with ok service. Don´t expect any egos to be stroked here.

Room Tip: If you want that juinor suite with the bathtub in the centre, be sure to specify. There seem to be m...

The hotel is housed in an impressive elliptical building which is clad in what looks like a metallic mesh...the overall result is not unpleasant, it looks like a giant modern kitchen appliance. You're situated in a real neighbourhood and the area around it is a little bit edgy; it's great but you should keep your wits about you if you're walking to Las Ramblas from here through the Barrio Chino in the evening (and then on the Ramblas you should continue to keep your wits about you as there are loads of pick-pockets)
There's an observation deck/bar on the 11th floor, which gives an amazing view over Barcelona...my room was on the 2nd floor but I imagine some of the top floors must have an amazing view.
The general decor is trying to be funky-cool and I think it doesn't quite get there. Or maybe I am neither funky enough or cool enough. The room amenities are fine, the shower is stand-alone with glass walls, lighting around the bed looks more like you'd see on a bar.
It was comfortable and cheap, so did the job well. I think it's a good slightly off the beaten track place to base yourself for exploring Barcelona.

Room Tip: go for the top floors if you can as the view must be stunning

My wife took me to this hotel that I did not know it existed. Beautiful location and spectacular room decor, design with the ultimate high-tech.
The room service food was amazing and the fridge had Custo design beers waooooo!.
We had one of its suites at its last floor, and the hotel is round-shape where you have a great view of the city and the Raval boulevard!.
The neighborhood surrounded to it is not one of the best, so use caution and avoid to be walking late at night for your safety.
The breakfast was excellent as as well as its presentation and choices. The service was good too!. I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Top floor suite the best choice!

As soon as the taxi dropped us off, we knew what other reviewers had meant about the location. It does feel like it’s a bit in the middle of nowhere. The reality is, it’s nicely away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to it, if that’s your kind of thing. A genuine 5 minute walk and you’re on La Rambla and the Las Ramblas area. We found this location ideal & although you do have to walk past a selection of “ladies of the night”, it’s not a threatening environment at all. It’s actually quite quirky.
The one major benefit to being in this area is the price. We were pretty sure that if this hotel was located on Las Ramblas then it would be regarded as 5 star and that it would also command 5 star prices. Over the last year or so, I’ve stayed in a few so-called 5 star hotels and the Barcelo Raval is pretty much on par with them. We stayed in a suite so I guess my view will be slightly skewed, but the reception area and main dining area are fantastic. Not too flashy, just a nice relaxing environment.
The hotel also has a 360 degree terrace on the top floor. The views are pretty impressive but it was so col when we were there, there was no way I staying outside for too long. I imagine on summer evenings, the 360 must be a hive of activity.
I’d recommend this hotel for sure, and although I’ve not stayed in any other hotels in Barcelona, I’d probably book the Barcelo Raval again. It’s a very safe bet. Nice surroundings (once inside the hotel!) at a nice price…

Bar prices are good for alcohol. The mini bar is a total rip off. Avoid! (3 Euros for a Diet Coke. Really?!)

Beware of the menu translation. If you can read Spanish/Catalan, do. The English translation is often wrong. (The Cheese soup was Chicken soup!)

All in all this is a cracking hotel. Give it a go. I doubt you’ll be disappointed. One last piece of advice…if you actually want a hot breakfast get down there early. We made the mistake of not doing this and by the time we got down there it was FREEZING. This is my one small gripe …

Room Tip: The suites are huge in comparison to the normal rooms... but how much time will you really spend in...

Positives: Close to centre. Many cheap restaurants and bars just a few blocks away. The hotel is classy and rooms are clean. View from rooftop is magnificent.
Negatives: Breakfast was the best I have ever had but too expensive. The curtains in the rooms cannot be opened and the room is quite dark. The shower is a glass cubicle in the middle of room.
