“Great location and friendly staff”
Reviewed January 20, 2010

Our apartment was really nice with a great view to the placa Reial - the only problem was that there is no reception 24 hours, so you need to advise about your arrival time, so they wait for you at the apartment... So we had a nice stay in Barcelona.

We booked this apartment for 3 nights. We arrived and "Pierre" showed us around - he is the most ignorant man I have ever met. He first showed us to an Attic apartment - absolutely disgusting place, it was previously broken into and he tried to tell us someone lost the key, the beds in the apartment are HOSPITAL beds, we were told to go easy on the hot water or it would run out!!! The fridge was filthy, no toaster and no HEATER!!!! I refused the apartment and he then took us to another one across the street - with a hole in the ceiling! Never seen anything like the disgusting and disgraceful conditions that we were expected to pay for!!!! We refused to stay and walked out.

Couldn't fault the location - our apartment 2B had a patio that overlooked Las Ramblas. The apartment had everything you needed - if you were camping. It was really basic - no cushions, no rugs on the floor, no pictures on the wall, no radio and no TV. We didn't find the noise too bad, apart from the Saturday night, and it had double-glazing. When we arrived there was no sign of any one to greet us, finally the concierge realised what was going on and ran off to get the key-holder. We had to leave our bags at her "office" in another building while our apartment was being cleaned., even though we had arrived during the check-in period. We were given only one set of towels each for 5 days and one set of keys. When we left, we needed to store our luggage until the evening, so we were told to leave it in another apartment. The "office" seemed to have disappeared - is the "office" whatever apartment isn't being rented at the time? All seemed a bit unprofessional given the rentals that they charge, but maybe those are the prices you have to pay in Barcelona?

New front desk on the main floor, with costumer care from 10.00 to 2.00 am.
No problem with indications on how to get to the front desk reception, there are new signs indicating the way to access to get to the reception.
Second set of keys can be borrowed in the front desk, ask for it before the arrival date.
Please confirm of any late check in after 2.00 am in the night, or before 10.00 am in the morning.

Fantastic location - right on las Ramblas, near La Boqueria market and not too far from Carrefour (so ideal for self catering) Metro stations handy. Clean and simply furnished. But.... despite calling ahead about our arrrival time and doing as asked (ie call when land at airport) we had to wait on keyholder to appear - promptly disappeared without letting us in promising to be back!! Eventually got in - no contracts, would come bakc tomorrow at 10am. Still waiting!! As other reviewers have said no towel change and low loo roll supplies!! But most of all the noise at night was dreadful - we were woken up in the middle of the night with folk going down the lane noisily after a good night out. After long days seeing the city last thing I wanted were 6 nights of broken sleep. If you need a base to party in Barcelona then this is the place to stumble home to!!

WE LIKED:

The situation of the apart on las Ramblas and on plaza Reial is central, ideal, near the old city (Barri Gothic, La Ribeira), Eixample, the sea and the subway.

(note that Plaza Reial is active 24/24, and some noise might disturb you. I slept with ear plugs, so almost nothing would disturb me ... my husband wouldn't sleep with earplugs, and didn't feel disturbed by the noise. Our apt was 2.2.C, on the 4 th floor, windows on Plaza Reial.)

It was spacious, smelled good, was clean, the Queen bed was comfortable, the child didn't complain of hers.

It was quite safe, the entrance door being in a passage that is supposed to be locked at night (but it is usually not locked, and a bar on plaza Reial has also an opening on the passage Bacardi!), the building's entrance door is locked downstairs, as of course is the apartment door. We dared leave our passports inside, despite the fact that no safe was available.

WE LIKED LESS:

They wanted us to pay cash, wich we didn't trust, and they charged us 2% more to pay by credit card. But we didn't have to insist, and we even obtained a electronic receipt.

We had changed our arrival time because when we booked, we couldn't book our train and had to estimate our arrival time. I sent 2 mails to tell them, because I couldn't find the specific way to change it, and the concierge had not been told. Fortunately, we arrived while he was there, but we never saw him again to complain about the towels (see below)

WE DISLIKED:

They wouldn't change the towels, which being used normally would smell molds after a couple of days, eww... We didn't succeed in getting in touch with the concierge, the phone number we had didn't seem to work. (+34695097612)

The neighbours, young tourists, that we supposed were numerous to rent an apt, who rand at 3 and 4 in the morning, trying to get back in the building... woke us up two nights in a row...

INCLUDED:

Bathroom: 3 toilet paper rolls for 3 persons for 5 days. Hair dryer. 1 towel and 1 hand towel per person for 5 days. Not much/enough surfaces to let our personnal belongings.

Kitchenette, provided with dishes for 4 and can opener, bottle opener, cisors, kitchen knife, and a few summary pots and pans. Also garbage bags are provided.

Note that not a single item of basic grocery is included, so if you expect to cook and stay there for only a few days, plan to bring from home a few things if you can and if you do not want to buy them (salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, ketchup, etc)... or plan to eat out or cold meals.

We stayed at Las Ramblas for 4 days as part of a 10 tour of Spain that included Fuengirola (Stayed with friends), Granada (Anacapri Hotel) and Cuenca (Parador de Cuenca). We were booked into a reasonably sized room that had tasteful, contemporary decor. I specifically asked to be located at the back of the hotel. We had a large balcony which looked over a ramshackle part of the city. The location of the hotel is great, right on Las Ramblas, close to Playa de Cataluña.
The room was clean and well serviced with a bidet, toilet and sink with large surface vanity area.
We were very disappointed with Barcelona. To us the city appeared to be dirty, full of tourists and backpackers. The location of the hotel is excellent. It is not for the experienced traveler who expects class style and service. It is what it is, a moderate hotel, clean, well serviced with an adequate breakfast.
If you do stay here you can lift your sprits by a dinner at the Los Caracoles which is near by.
Have a drink in the bar before you eat and enjoy the company of a great bartender (Juan)

We stayed here for 2 nights pre-cruise. The location was wonderful....steps from Las Ramblas and a beautiful square full of restaurants. We were able to walk down to the waterfront and use the tourist bus as well as the subway and numerous attractions. The apartment was clean and very secure. The desk staff at the apartment were friendly and helpful. There is no one at the desk after hours, but they are available by phone. You should probably ask for 2 sets of keys for your party, because the outer gate of the entry way is locked in the evenings and if your party splits up, there is no way to ring or knock to get in. My husband had to find the back of the building and call up to the window for me to let him in. We payed 120 Euro per night, which was a deal for this location. Would definitely stay here again!
