“Great Location , Quirky rooms and Pricey”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2012

The location of this hotel is excellent , just up the street from the Placa de Catalunya. As we were visting for a short time (4 nights) this meant we could walk to most of the places we wanted to see. The hotel is very close to Guadi's Casa Batllo and just a little farther away from La Pedrera. It was also an easy walk to Sangrada Familia , Port Vell via La Ramblas and the Bari Gothic area.Lots of shops and restaurants close by and both main city tour buses had a stop right outside. The hotel was immaculatly clean including the rooms and the public areas. Our package including breakfast which was a very good buffet with cereal , fruit juices , cold meats and cheses. Also including was hot items such as scrambled eggs , bacon and sausage. We did the journey from the airport by taxi (30 euros) but apparently there is a nearby stop for the train that goes to Terminal 1. There is also close by Metro stops (look for the painted lines on the pavements(sidewalks) to follow). The room was a little disappointing. Obviously a lot more effort on design rather than functionality was expended. The bed was very comfortable and the air con worked great. As mentioned by others the toilet and shower were directly in the room. The wash sinks were useless way too small , no way to stop the water flowing out and no horizontal surfaces close by or at the same level to layout toiletries. There was a mini bar and safe box in the room. The mini bar had a modest range of items but you could also find space to store your own items. The safe box would take a small laptop.notebook and was free. The lighting in the room was adequate once your worked out the complex switching arrangements , except for the reading lights which where too dim to be useful. The outside hot tub area was clean very useful as were the outside terraces on level 1 that had tables and parasols. The bar was ok but no draught beer and was expensive. The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English.

Room Tip: Rooms on level 5 have an easy access to the Outdoor hot tub. Our room overlooked the main street bu...

Do not go to this hotel with someone you are not intimate with as both the shower and the toilet are separated from the room only by glass. Having said that, it's a good hotel to stay in for a city break as it has great location and nice design. And ample space. The room we stayed in was spacious (enough free floor place to accommodate even a massage bed and still have space around it for the therapist to work with) and had a nice little balcony overlooking Passeig de Gracia which is beautifully tree lined. The bed was comfortable and huge. The hotel is amidst all luxury shops (Tiffany's is right across the street) and Casa Battlo is practically next door. There is a good Michelin Star restaurant across the street in the Mandarin Oriental hotel, as well as countless other restaurants within walking distance. The hotel advertises a rooftop hot tub but when we went up, although very nice views and space, the water was not even warm. With a vibrant city right outside, we didn't really care about the hot tub though. The service otherwise was efficient, and breakfast adequate.

Room Tip: Definitely one with a balcony over the boulevard...

Plus:
Great location away from Ramblas crowds but still close enough to walk to everything.
Located near hi-end stores & major public transport so it is safe (just look for Nike store)
Decent breakfast to get you going.
Room is very smartly decorated & interesting, great for single.couples
Great value if you can get single room for 115 Euros

Negs:
If you have accessibility issues or need help with luggage probably not a great hotel as they are short-staffed & located on the second floor so you will have issues onloading a taxi if you have a lot of luggage--cant really consider this a five star b/c of this issue.
Front desk not too knowledgable about nearby tapas places so best do your research before hand if you want to find the good non-touristy stuff.
- Lighting in room not the best for reading in bed
-Interesting tub & sink design but probably not good for the little ones (i.e., toddlers).

Stayed for 4 days..my room was interesting..had read many comments on here about the design not being user freindly and well some things are not practical like the sinks and step up to the bathroom area and such but everything else FAR out weighs what a comfortable hotel this is and so close everything... attractions..I had a room facing the street and it was quiet with the balcony door shut and a huge comfortable bed..the room was clean and spacious.Modern..loved the roof top area..breakfast was good..coffee not so good LOL
The real asset this hotel has is Felipe at the front desk..I cant remember when I have had such excellent genuine customer service..nothing was too much trouble..so helpful and considerate..he made my stay perfect and the hotel was already impressing me. I really do recommend this hotel..and will be back.! Thankyou!

Room Tip: I stayed in 405..great views down the street and quiet at night..huge bed..shower only

I loved everything about this hotel. From the cool interior, the helpful staff (gave great recommendations for restaurants), the luxurious bathroom and the enormous bed. It just felt great being in this hotel.

We're a Moroccan couple, we spent 9 days in bcn design hotel in barcelone from 27/06/12 to 05/07/12. We had a wonderfull stay there. It's in an excelent situation in paseig di gracia, center of Barcelone. Great, smiling, helpful staff. It was very nice to see Maria during breakfast time welcoming us with a nice smile. Merce, Filip.., Aroa in the reception were so kind and ready for any help. The room was nice, clean, confortable bed, with a balcony on passeig di gracia. We loved our stay and we enjoyed a lot barcelone. Sure we will come back. Tks to all of you

Where can i even start with how amazing this hotel is?! Location is PERFECT - it is a 5-10 minute walk from Placa de Catalunya, which if you get the Aerbus from the airport is the last stop so it's ideal. And as someone has already mentioned the nearest metro stop is only 50 meters from the door, and the open top bus tours stop right outside the door also so it really couldnt be more perfect. plenty of wonderful tourist sites all within walking distance too.

The real GEM of the hotel is the wonderful conceirge, Philippe who is just so enthusiastic and passionate about the hotel, your stay, Barcelona.... everything. He WANTS you to have the best time and will do anything he can to make sure that happens. When we arrived to check in, he gave us a CHOICE of 3 rooms so we could decide where in the hotel we would be happiest. THAT is service :-)

the rooms are beautifully designed and decorated. remember IT IS A DESIGN HOTEL so it's going to be unusual. YES some of the rooms have a bathtub in the middle - use it or dont use it, it's your choice! they are spotlessly clean and welcoming, great products, AMAZING big spacious showers. the sinks are small and irritating but that's just me being a nit picker so take no notice.

the rooftop jacuzzi is glorious and relaxing after a busy day of sightseeing before heading out on the town and kicking up your heels again!

perfect hotel!!!!
