Definitely the main attraction of Segovia and worth seeing! As an American, being inside such an old building is almost incomprehensible, let alone being in an actual castle!! Highly recommend going to the top and looking out over the valley- I bet you didn’t realize that castles were set so high above the ground. A very impressive sight.

Preserved castle. Extremely beautiful and with awesome explanation given by the guides. It is an obligated stop if you are in Segovia. I recommend tongo early since people start to arrive at 10. Love it.

This is an amazing palace, although it is called "el alcázar", fortress in Arabic. It used to be a military academy for many years, and now it is a museum. The outside is just amazing, the inside is nice, a few rooms with furniture from different periods.

The Alcazar in Segovia is said to be the inspiration for Walt Disney's castle from Sleeping Beauty. Perched as it is on a clifftop above a ravine, it certainly makes for a formidable sight as you approach from the town's centre and with its steeply pointed spires poking up like freshly sharpened pencils it looks more like a fantasy castle from Germany than from Spain. Just as memorable is the interior, with some of the sumptuously decorated rooms dating from the time of Queen Isabella (though there has also been a fair bit of renovation since those days). The rooms are furnished with tapestries and paintings as well as other priceless artifacts but I found these treasures were made to look everyday by the extraordinary decorative ceilings, especially in the Galley Room, the Pine-cone Room and the Hall of the Kings. The presentation of the latter room is nothing short of stunning.

Honestly, I would not go out of my way and go to Segovia just to see the alcazar. But since we were there, we did tour this castle, and it was an interesting hour or two. The exterior design is pretty cool, but the interior is kind of average as far as castles go. Still, I'm glad we took a stroll through.
