We took a day trip from Madrid to Avila and Segovia. The Alcazar was on the itinerary, it is a great place to learn about the early days of Spain. The scenery across the Spanish horizon from the castle was spectacular. Lots to see here.

This was my whole reason for coming to Segovia. I wanted to see the castle that Disney mimicked. The entrance cost 5.50 euro per person for complete access to the castle. Walking to the top was exhausting but worth it in the end because I saw the best view of Old City Segovia. It was like something out of a fairy tale. The best part is I was able to do this without a tour company or guide at the castle. Certainly worth the day trip from Madrid. After, we walked the Old City of Segovia to Plaza Mayor to have a nice lunch and then back down to the Aqueducto where we had coffee. Water and snacks are available at the castle also.

We took a self-planned 1/2 day trip from Madrid to Segovia on the La Sepulvedana bus line (830 departure with an open return). The bus ride went smoothly and the bus station in Segovia is a short walk from the visitor center. We took a cab from the visitor center to the castle then walked down through the city after we toured the castle. The castle is beautiful and well worth the visit. We wanted more of the classic view you see in photographs so we found out that if you exit the castle gates and go left there is a set of stairs, Follow those then stay left and follow the street. You will end up in a small park with an amazing view of the castle similar to what you see in pictures except you are lower. The town of Segovia is picturesque too! It was well worth the side trip!

My boyfriend planned this all along...didn't tell me exactly what we were walking towards as we wound through the streets of Segovia. As we neared the clear end of the town, we went through a gate and all of a sudden a castle appeared from behind the trees. What a surprise! And I could see why people thought Disney took reference for the Cinderella castle from this vision, from its battlement position and deep moat looking out over the plains.
