Owner description: Fortress of the Kings of Castile and Royal School of Artillery Its picture has been around the world: a unique fairy tale-like palace that brings together architectural tastes of different monarchs. It tells -to all those who come to know it- ancient palatial stories. Austere, as they were the Castilian kings, raised on the rock at the confluence of the valleys of the rivers Eresma and Clamores, the Alcázar seems to watch over the city. Its beautiful Tower keep, often compared to the bow of a boat sailing between the two rivers, is of a stunning beauty. Tourists are amazed to realize that the fortress is a living part of this Castilian city, chosen as a place of residence for many of the monarchs of the Trastámara dynasty.

Stunning and very well maintained from the outside.
We went with tour group and have no opportunity to enter the building. Would love to come again!

“Amazing Castle”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

Worth visiting. An incredible building with beautiful views and a lot of history inside its walls. Segovia is not a very big city so you can walk from the Cathedral to the Alcázar along the nice streets of Segovia. It was a big storm when I visited the Alcázar and the feeling was amazing. The cealings of the different rooms have superb decoration.

“Wonderful! Take the Tour!”
Reviewed July 15, 2014

The tour is well worth the price and the time (about an hour will do it). Make sure you go to the top of the rampart to get some good pictures. When I lived in Spain we walked along the road that runs by the castle and got some terrific pictures of the side of the castle! It's worth the walk - just be mindful of the crazy drivers. One of my best pictures of all of Spain was taken there.

If you are driving a car - consider going to Avila as well. You can easily do both cities and drive back to Madrid in the same day. If you are riding trains then it's not as easy.

“Time Machine to Medieval Times”
Reviewed July 5, 2014

Although not the original building (the original was destroyed by fire), this rebuilt Alcazar is a very impressive replica. Unlike Alcazar in Toledo, this one aims at showing the castle the way it would have been several hundred years ago. Your kids will enjoy it, and so will you. They do offer audio gudes, and I think they are well worth 3 Euros. There is a separet ticket for the tower, which will get you to the very top, but be aware, it's not an easy climb to the top up the winding stairway. Once you are on the roof, you'll get a great panoramic view of Segovia and the surroundings. The only thing I don't understand is how the same attraction appears twice on the list (This Alcazar is #2 and #4 on the list of Segovia attractions).

“Fairy Tale”
Reviewed July 3, 2014

I have only seen castles like this in fairy tale books,I gather Walt Disney used this particular castle for his Disney logo. You just cannot believe how fabulous this place is. The views are excellent ,there are bars ,cafes and restaurants in the area. It is a must when in Madrid,I cannot describe it's beauty sufficiently.
