Even 2000 years ago when they were built people will have been utterly amazed at these huge constructions. Today we are lucky they still stand. No mortar apparently was used. Watch for that middle top stone in each of the over 160 arches, as this is the key stone that had to be put in last.

Day time visit was fine, but you must visit in the evening when the Aqueduct is it up. It is beautiful. Walk around the city with great bars and wonderful sites. Perfect for weekend night out.

Our Gate 1 trip to Spain and Portugal with stops in Gibralter and Morocco was fabulous. One of the highlights was our stop in Segovia, Spain. This city has an aquaduct built by Romans, it is believed around the 1st Century AD. This viaduct is still functioning and is an amazing sight to see. The Romans were quite the engineers. The city of Segovia is very quaint with winding streets and steep hills. It has a wonderful cathedral built from the 1500s to the 1700s. We also enjoyed seeing the Segovia Castle built around the 11th century. Be sure to try some wine while there. Very nice and usually comes with tapas!

The aqueduct is just a piece of art. It is amazing to walk around the old part of town to discover the aqueduct while seeing old stores and other beautiful buildings.

We visited the Roman Aqueduct during our two day stay.It is very easy to find the Aqueduct as it is very near the Plaza Mayor and the cafes and small shopping area.As you drive into Segovia the aqueduct is easily visible from the main road.
