My wife and I traveled to Salamanca in November of 2004 to visit our daughter who was studying at the Universidad de Salamanca. We stayed at the Hotel Catalonia which is just off the Plaza Mayor, the heart of a charming, lively and friendly city. The Catalonia Hotel is small, no palatial sized lobby, but it was excellent with spacious, immaculate, modern rooms and an excellent continental breakfast buffet included in the very reasonable room rate. Parking in a nearby garage was 10 or 11 euros per diem. We stayed three nights and were quite satisfied. The hotel, literally seconds from the Plaza, is on a small side street (Espose y Mina) so there are no spectacular views, just the quaint buildings accross a quite little street. I highly recommend this hotel to others. Only the idle rich or the self important would need more than this hotel offers to satisfy their cravings for self-indulgence and attention. Our 24 year old son stayed there a month later in December 2004 and was also favorably impressed, of course he had even more reason to like it, since we were paying his travel expenses.
