St. Stephen's Convent (Convento de San Esteban)
Ranked #4 of 83 things to do in Salamanca
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 23, 2013

Richly adorned façade. Its doorway shows saints, the story of Jesus, and most importantly the stoning of San Esteban, to whom the monastery is dedicated to. It's church is broad with mirrors on the floor to better admire the ceiling and its paintings. Cool pictures can be taken from these angles.

A bit more off the beaten path, the Convent isn't too far away and you will be greatly rewarded for your journey. The main portal to the church would be sufficient enough. It rivals the University entrance in the detail present. But entering is also worth the entrance fee. The cloisters and their chapels are appealing, especially the staircase rising to the choir section of the church. The church itself isn't as spectacular as the New or Old Cathedrals, but easy rates as the third best in the city.

The façade is magnificent in the golden light of the late afternoon. It's 5m walk from the main tourist area, but it's worth that and a lot more just to see the portal and its sculptures, let alone visiting inside.

Yet another architecturally stunning religious building. Very peaceful. Not too expensive with interesting cloisters up and downstairs. We watching 3 families of stork building nests and feeding their young.

The church is quite nice, bit it was the cloister and staircase that we really found amazing. The cloister is a lovely light filled space, and one can walk within the cloister itself. And an added bonus was to spot the many storks' nests in the towers with the storks busy tending to their nestlings.
