The Puerta de la Torre tour gives you excellent views of Salamanca and also fantastic views inside both cathedrals. My advice would be to do this tour first before deciding if you also want to pay to visit the cathedral at ground level.
Access is avaliable throughout the day from 10 am with the last visit at 7.15pm. There were also two evening tours whilst we were there which would have been fantastic to see the lights but were restrict to 25 people, I also think that this may only be avaliable in the summer.
The tour gives you an insight into both cathedrals and although the display boards are in Spanish there are English translations avaliable in the rooms.
There are a lot of steps but not a difficult climb if you take your time.
Take your time to look around the whole of the outside of the catherdral at ground level, many people tend to only take the time to look at the 2 sides of this magnificent building but if you walk all the way round you will be rewarded with a great picture minus the crowds. Also make sure you visit at night to get a great picture of the catherdrals whilst light, magical.
