Parador de Salamanca

Like many other reviewers, we loved the views from the bedrooms. We stayed as part of a group of 22 with Titan Travel - the first time they had used this hotel. Our room (121) was spacious and had that great view of the City. It is about a 20 minute walk from the Hotel to the end of the old Roman Bridge into Salamanca. Fine during daylight but recommend a taxi at night.

The building design isn't to everyones taste but we liked it and the staff were lovely. Breakfast is buffet style and very comprehensive with good timings. For early diners, note that Spanish dining times apply! - 8.30pm onwards. Food from the 33 euro 'Parador' evening menu was really only average and they should concentrate on less quantity and more quality.

Take a trip to Tordesillas, Ciudad Rodrigo and La Alberca. Overall, Salamanca is a wonderful City and the Parador a good place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the view across to the City

I stayed at the Parador during the recent Euroclassic car run on 25th of September. Unlike most of the Paradors I have used it's not a converted old building but a purpose built hotel. It's got great views of the old town, ample car parking, big bedrooms and super bathrooms, and a nice bar and restaurant. It's not cheap but well worth it.

A huge, ugly building blotting the skyline , but, don't let that put you off.
Inside it's a smart and very acceptable hotel with large rooms. Ask for a room with a view of the old city, as the views are fantastic. Reception was helpful and efficient, large free parking area, and the room was very clean. It's a short 10 minute walk over the Roman bridge up to the centre of an amazing old town centre.

Room Tip: You must have a room with a view of the old city (costs a little extra, but worth it ).

This is not a parador like many others. Yes, it is modern, but more 60's style, not the modern hotel as you find it in other 'chain hotels'. Service is in general outstanding, with some small exceptions. This is the same for all paradors. We liked the atmosphere, the cleanliness, the situation, the staff...everything. Warmly recommended !

Hotel was comfortable and spacious. Our room was a double costing 100 euro per night. We asked for a view of the city and the price went up to 120 e despite the place being almost empty! Breakfast was extra, another 32 e per day(for 2 persons) although buffet was good. We did not eat in the hotel as we thought looked pricey. Hotel is modern with little character from outside. A nice pool and grassed area to sit, sunbathe etc. big downside for us was walk to Salamanca. Hotel stands on a hill about 30 min walk from city centre. To get there you have to go thru a neighbourhood that is being redeveloped and was not geared to tourists. In fact we felt somewhat unsafe going thru this area. You then cross a busy main road and the roman bridge for an uphill stretch into Salamanca. We would not stay again because of this and felt we could get a better hotel Ian more convenient location for similar or less price.

Compared to Hotels in rip off Britain this was a reasonably priced stay at £171 for two nights. OK so that doesn't include breakfast or dinner but when you're staying a short walk from one of the loveliest cities in Spain (or anywhere) why wouldn't you get into town for food?
We loved this Parador and even though we decided not to pay the extra 20€ a night for a room with a view of the city we were surrounded by the stunning panorama of Salamanca at every turn; the lobby, the cafe, waiting for the lift...the view is everywhere. We had a view of the front of the Hotel and we liked it! We could watch the Saga coach trip leaving on a hot night in town.
The room was spacious, clean, aircon, large beds (twins together), big tele, bath! Yes bath and shower! And so quiet we wondered if there were other guests. The staff here are formal but really friendly and helpful even with our terrible Spanish. The parking is great and the walk out of the front gate gets you into the heart of this wonderful city in 10-15minutes.
It's hard to think about staying anywhere but a Parador Hotel after this stay.

I have stayed here three times. The restoration and upgrading a few years ago has been generally successful. Contrary to a previous review, the hotel is just over a half-mile stroll across the river from the Cathedrals, and less than a mile from the central Plaza. Parking in the ample grounds is free. Although the building is modern and not very attractive, the facilities are good, the food excellent and the staff helpful and friendly (other Paradors note) - and of course the views to the old town are wonderful.
