Very well run hotel with mini kitchen. It is right across the street from bus terminal. Take Avanca bus-line from Madrid Airport. The staff is very attentive and polite. The hotel is spotlessly clean. This is a good place to stay while doing business or visiting Salamanca; however, it is not a luxury hotel. Plenty of hot water which for showers; this is an important luxury in dry climates. The kitchen has small refrigerator, 2 burner electric stove with small sink. This is nice as most restaurants aren't open for early risers. Buy milk, bread, butter, instant coffee etc. Plan on going out for lunch and dinner. The hotel does have a restaurant but I have not seen anyone really eat there. It is pricey. It seems like people only drink and eat topas there.

Hints: Salamonca is a walker's town. There are taxis and buses but most people walk into the center of city. If you are not a brisk hiker or walker, plan on learning to use municipal buses or taxis. Hotel88 is 15 minutes brisk walk into Plaza Mayor. Plaza Mayor is the center for everything cultural and historical.

Eating Hints: Due east of Hall88, about 3 short blocks is Telekabob. This is small family owned Turkish cafe. Great inexpensive food. The menu is limited but there Kabob style chicken and beef sandwiches are 3.5 euros, There salads are great: 3 euros or with cheese 3 1/2 euros. 2 beers, a salad and 2 kabob sandwiches: $ 14 Euro.

For finer dinning, go toward plaza major. Always look for placard outside Menu Del Dia. This where you find freshest and most economical meals. If you don't look for Menu Del Dia on outside, you will pay much more off of menu inside.

Avoid Cuarto Gatos (4 cats)Restaurants: unhygienic conditions:

Avoid Plaza 23 restaurant on the plaza. Yes, it has a nice view of plaza at night but food is only okay. but you can view the plaza from the outside at no charge. They tagged on 12 Euros just for bread for which nobody else charges. I paid 3 times what comparable restaurants would charge.

There is a restaurant something like: Mason Abracka??? but the 14 euro steak dinner is enough meat for 2 men. It is fire flamed as you watch. Restaurant off of the Plaza Mayor. South of plaza there is a money changing business. Go past money changer toward the cathedral. Avoid the money changer office as it will cost about 15% commission. Debit card ATM are cheaper and are everywhere.

I hope this helps.

Paul

Only stayed overnight on our trip back to Santander. Room was clean and spacious.
Very helpful staff who spoke good English. Very good breakfast with plenty to choose from.
Only 10-15mins stroll to centre, just follow the crowds. Salamanca buzzing!
Only slight downside was secure parking for motorbike which at 12:90euros was I thought a little steep.

Overall, the staff was excellent. They never failed to greet guests in the lobby. The restaurant was also very accommodating. Somehow we always came late for meals but they served us anyway. Food is good and the cafeteria and bar were good to have for a quick bite and in case we needed bottled water. It was also just across the street from the bus depot which was extremely convenient. It's a bit of a walk to the center of town but that made the area much quieter. The rooms were comfortable but dated and there were no reading lights. It was good to have a little kitchen since we were able to buy some good jamon, cheese, empanada, etc from the El Corte Ingles supermarket. Accompanied with wine from the bar downstairs, we ended up having a very good lunch. Good value for the money and convenient location.

I wish I stayed more nights at Hall88 - unfortunately Salamanca can be explored in one day. The hotel check in was a breeze, even the fuzzy rugs did not deter me from getting my luggage to my room too much. The room smelled slightly smokey but otherwise everything was clean. The shower was a pleasant surprise. It was on-par with the water pressure I had at home. I've had so many sprinkler showers all over Europe. This had to be the best one so far. Did not try out any of the restaurants but we had to leave super early to catch the train to Lisbon. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
The only con was that the wifi was not working while we were there and they could not get it fixed after multiple attempts.

When we arrived at the hotel, we quickly parked the car in the spacious underground parking garage (well worth every penny paid for the daily parking). In Salamanca (like most cities in Spain) just park the car and forget about it while you visit the city by foot. Check-in was smooth and once we made it to the room we found the room for the 4 of us spacious, clean and modern. With the kitchen, it made things very easy for us to keep our water, fruit cool in the fridge.

The location of the hotel right next to the bus station would make for an ideal spot if you are travelling by bus. From the hotel to the historic core of the city would take about 20 minutes walking (we never took cabs or public transit in the city).

The television provided ample channels and the free wifi at the hotel was fast and for us proved to be highly important...as when we arrived at the hotel we received news of a family emergency. The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful in accommodating changes in our stay due to this emergency by ensuring that we could stay an extra day in the same room.

The cafeteria, restaurant downstairs was very convenient and not overly expensive.

Special kudos to the hotel's reception staff (day and night shift) that throughout our stay made us not have to carry any additional worries about our hotel stay and made us feel right at home. Although I do have to ask, why in a brand new, contemporary hotel that caters to travellers would they put decorative shaggy area rugs in the hallways??? Our luggage kept dragging the rugs along!!!

Again, thanks to all of the staff, we fell in love with Salamanca and will definitely be visiting the city again- and no hesitation in staying at the Hall88 Aparthotel again!

The room was immaculate, as was the hotel in general and the staff were very welcoming. It took us about 15 minutes to walk to the Plaza Mayor which wasn't a problem for us and there is an Eroski practically next door to buy food if you want to use the kitchen in the room. It was very convenient for us for the bus station too, it is literally across the road. There were three of us sharing a room but it was by no means overcrowded. The shower was powerful and nice and hot and the beds were comfy. No complaints!
