We arrived in Leon expecting a nice hotel but were stunned by the beauty and magnificence of this amazing building.
We did not dine here as we wanted to experience the restaurants and tapas of Leon and were not disappointed.
The cost of our stay in this Parador was reasonable enough for the delightful stay in this establishment. The rooms were very good not like a stunning five star ,but in keeping with the overall ambience of this fabulous and historic old monastery.
We left with a sense of awe in the knowledge they it would be difficult to monetize an experience like this .
I would urge potential visitors to Leon to try it for themselves.

As you approach the hotel you are blown away . The facade is just incredible . Once inside you further realise this is a very special place .The lobby is amazing and the scale vast . Our room was on the side overlooking the knot garden and was a pleasant enough . It is worth taking time to walk around the building and take it in . The restaurant was excellent , perfect service and the best food evening meal I ate in the 7 paradors we visited . Breakfast was very good only surpassed by Santiago de Compostela .Do stay in this hotel it is very special .

We stayed at this magnificent Parador in June and found it to be just perfect and really safe and central. We arrived late and were lucky enough to get a good room in the main building at an increadibly good offer.Paradors offer the same high standards, but we found the ambiance and staff particularly good.Parking was handy too, with a shaded covered park at the rear of the hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in the older main building and enjoyed every minute.

This hotel has the advantage of being inside an old monastery, so it´s absolutely a beautiful experience to be in it. The rooms and also very spacious, bathrooms are comfortable. Only downside is that there is no air conditioning. Breakfast is great, location within the town is perfect - walking distance to the city center and restaurantes, The hotel has a bar with delicious tapas that open at 7pm, restaurant opens later on. Cost benefit is great, I highly recommend this hotel in Leon.
Please allow plenty of time for check out since it may take a while.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the garden

This was the first of the five Paradores at which we stayed on our holiday in Spain. After staying at Hostal San Marcos, the subsequent Paradores paled by comparison (although Parador de Hondarribia came close). One could literally spend all afternoon simply touring this immense edifice. The public rooms are stunning in their scope and decoration. Our hotel room was average sized, but within the historic building itself, so we had good views of Rio Bernesga and the Quevedo Avenue bridge that spans it. We ate in the lounge which provided a pleasant, casual setting for light dining. All the sites in Leon are a short walk from the Parador. We simply cannot imagine staying anywhere else in Leon; the Hostal San Marcos is on our very short list of "MUST RETURN" vacation destinations.

Room Tip: Stay in the historic building instead of the modern annex.

Previous reviews will tell you what a magnificent building this is-inside and out.I would merely repeat that it is worth paying the extra for a Superior room in the original building with views over the square rather than staying in the modern but tired looking 'barracks'at the back. Our room was huge, but dark even with the blinds fully open.It had everything you need and a huge bathroom.Food in the restaurant was fine but visitors should be aware of the Paradors' ethos of promoting regional cooking so don't expect international cuisine in what is rated a five star hotel.Yes,it is expensive but there a few other places you can stay in such wonderful surroundings.

Room Tip: Go for a superior room in the original building.

Second time we have stayed here, very sorry the spectacular bar we had seen last time was closed for redecoration so drinks were served in a sort of lounge area (why don't places tell you when you book?). The building is absolutely magnificent, indeed you can spend a great deal of time walking round the various levels and cloisters, which are well explained with copious information boards in English. We had a fine dinner in the restaurant and a good breakfast. Our room looked out over a garden which meant that, even though we were in the middle of the city, there was no real noise (presumably that's also helped by the large pedestrianised square in front of the hotel). The reception staff were very helpful indeed and all in all we had a lovely stay - hope the splendid old bar is open again next time!
