Don't miss the royal pantheon with its frescos. Loose yourself in the Barrio Humido walking through the middle age narrow streets with a lot of bar where tapas are served for free together with wine or beer...

Astonishing medieval ceiling fresco - and, apparently, very few visitors. This was our favorite site in Leon.

note: I sent this review a minute ago, but the internet connection was interupted. You might there fore get it twice.
When visiting the painted murals of St. Isidoro in Leon, I suggest you put guide books and wikipedia print outs aside, and allow yourself a direct, fresh aproach to the vivid frescoes. Scenes of rural daily activities are used as allegories for the various seasons, they are humourous and so alife, that I felt almost part of the world depicted while watching. Rather than seeing it only as a Christian Church, this place seems an intercultural focus point of creativity and spirituality over various periods, built in pre arab times over a Roman temple, continued in Romanesque, gothic and renessaince style. The museum up the narrow stairs hosts a valuable library. It is tempting to touch the books through the simple chicken wire that protects them. Take your time, and maybe a sketchbook instead of a camera.
