I was so glad we took the time to tour this Cathedral. It was a well done tour & they are doing an awesome job of restoring/ keeping it great for the future. You will spend more time here than intended- it is that good. Impressive & worth the stop!

It still amazes me that these structures were built so grand and so long ago. How did they do it? Strange. It makes me think more of the human than the divine. Craftsmanship on both the stone and windows is stunning. I hate paying to get into churches but it was well worth it.

This is a sparkling building in more ways than one. From the outside it is complex highly ornate and a very unusual design. The stone is almost white, so use the snow program on your camera if the sun is up! Inside it is just amazing with the most beautiful choir carvings and gilded alters, and a rather funny incongruous clock which you will have to look for. On the way out there is a museum area which is very interesting, and a lovely cloistered area which is quiet and serene. We liked this cathedral more than the one in Santiago De Compostela.

The spires of the cathedral rise above the city and are visible from many places. They are hollow and "frilly". It is an amazing building and absolutely full of stone carvings. You don't get the idea of real spaciousness inside as there are many side chapels which are gated and the choir is closed off. The remains of El Cid and his wife are buried here - in an unremarkable tomb. There are some wonderful domes with small glass windows in the top! Hard to describe but look up when you visit! There is also a museum in the cathedral which is set around the upper level of the cloister which has some interesting exhibits including a Visigoth bible. The lasting impression of the cathedral as a whole is it's wonderful stone work inside and out. The English audio-guides are very interesting and clear.
