My wife and I stopped here after we landed in Madrid, rented a car, and headed to San Sebastian. We did not want to travel the 5 hours all at once, so we decided on the Landa Hotel in Burgos.
We visited the town of Burgos the following morning and I am always torn between staying in the city center or just outside. Since we were driving we chose to stay outside the city center. Also, the Landa Hotel offered a nice pool and a restaurant. Sometimes we regret staying outside of the city center, but in this case it was a great decision.
Upon arrival we were greeted by the bellman who was extremely eager to help us. He refused our help and grabbed all of our bags and then parked our car. We were disappointed that the pool was closed for the day due to a wedding.
After exploring our room we headed down to the bar/cafe and had a great lunch of Gazpacho, Iberico Ham and Bread with Tomato. Later in the day we enjoyed Tapas and finally dinner around 9 - the earliest they opened. Dinner was excellent and we enjoyed Monk Fish as the main course.
Overall, the hotel is really a great option. The beds and pillows were "European Firm" but the rooms and bathroom were better than expected. I would not rate this hotel as luxury by no means, but it serves a great purpose and I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience.
I found the hotel to be quiet and pleasant. You can spend countless hours sitting on the cafe patio enjoying the sun and the nice breeze. A nice oasis.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The beginning of the Landa dates back to 1959. A little restaurant was opened 2 km outside Burgos where travellers used to refresh themselves on their journey along the road which, despite its faults, was then the main route linking the capital with the north of Spain. The commitment of the Landa family to the hotel business dates back to the beginning of the 20th century with the "Real Club de Puerta de Hierro" in Madrid and "La Perla" in San Sebastian, and later with "La Gran Taberna", also in Madrid. The Landa started out during hard times for the Spanish hotel business in non urban areas; the hotel, its various extensions, the tower, the pool, the square... Were incorporated later on, little by little. ... more less
