Feels like you are staying in a baronial castle. Great public rooms and a large indoor/outdoor swimming pool. Out bedroom was very spacious with double poster bed, setee, easy chairs and a great bathroom.

The restaurant was also good and I thought reasonable value for dinner. Breakfasts are rather expensive, however, 16 euro for continental and 25 euro for full.

It is, I suppose, about 2km from the centre of Burgos.

Our stay at the Hotel Landa was outstanding. The old building has been beautifully renovated - one feels like royalty from a bygone era. The facilities are gorgeous - do not miss the pool and extensive grounds. The rooms are spacious and functional. The service was attentive. The breakfast delicious (the hotel bakes its own pastries and breads every morning ... think of fluffy and crispy croissants). Dinner also was very nice. Excellent morcilla, chorizo and cordero (lamb) and attentive service!

We were in Burgos as a jumping off point for the two main wine regions in Spain. This hotel was one of the highlights of this trip, or any trip we've taken. Landa is right of the highway, but you neither see nor hear the road. But what you do see upon entering the grounds is a singularly gracious property. We entered the restored medieval tower that houses the front desk and were immediately awestruck. When we got to our room, we were not disappointed. While not old, it was very, very spacious and offered every amenity. It opened onto a large porch overlooking an expansive lawn and the Landa's unbelievable pool. Part of the pool is covered by an arched stone and glass structure and is connected by a swim-through passageway to the outdoor pool. And the restaurant is not to be missed. We ate every breakfast and dinner there for the three days of our stay. I don't know when we will be back, but if we are in 150 miles of Burgos, we will definitely make a point of returning.

We were on our way from Morocco to France and had spent the night before in Caceres Parador. We arrived Sunday afternoon and the hotel seemed filled up. Actually most of the guests were day guests who had come for the wonderful menu in the restaurant and cafe. Landa is obviously known for its bread, cakes and other specialties- People come as far away as Madrid (two hours by motorway) to spend the day at Landa.
We were given a lovely room in the tower and decided to spend the afternoon by the pool. To our surprise we had the amazing pool all to ourselves. The hotel policy seems to be that only overnight guests have access to the pool. It is an indoor/outdoor pool and we had a quiet, relaxing afternoon.
The restaurant is well worth visiting as well, but we were tired and decided to just taste the many great tapas in the cafe. OK, let's be honest, the personnel could have been more attentive, but as mentioned they were inundated by locals on a Sunday afternoon. We had a quiet night in real Irish linen sheets and a relaxed breakfast on Monday. A few hours later we were in Bordeaux.
The hotel sits literally on the highway, but despite this is exceptionally quiet and when the weather is good you can enjoy the garden and he swimming pool. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Room in the tower

This lovely place is a bit of a fake -- with its "ancient tower" and wonderful atmosphere. It looks very old but is not. So what, all is beautiful and well decorated. The staff is truly accommodating and helpful. Then there is the restaurant where the food is definitely not faked. We ordered the quarter lamb and it was beautiful with the fine service we were truly pleased.
It is about 150km from Santander so it makes a convenient place to stop after taking the ride from the UK on the overnight ferry. We will definitely do it again.

Room Tip: Take the tower.

This is a wonderful hotel and like all rarities a little difficult to find (without Sat Nav). The main castle itself is so beautifully decorated. Medieval decor everywhere lends to the warmth of the welcome as staff are very friendly. It is truly spectacular and a place to relax. The snacks/tapas served in the bar are fabulous and the food and restaurant are the best Spain has to offer imo. I will definitely return. For the last several years I've been travelling through Spain trying to vary the journey but this hotel will feature as a stop in the future.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable and also magnificently decorated. There are many items around to interest anyone of discerning taste from the tasteful decor and furniture to the quirky swimming pool with huge fireplace. I can't wait to return in the winter. If this is an example of how the Spanish elite of yonder years lived, they lived very well indeed. Worth a visit. The city of Burgos is a 10 Euro taxi fare away and worth spending a day. Everything has so impressed me here on this trip I'm writing this before I leave..

Many people make the drive from Madrid just to have a meal at the lovely restaurant of this family-owned boutique hotel. It was packed when got there for lunch, & we understood why when we sampled these dishes- morcilla de Burgos, empanadilla de codorniz, cochinillo, corderito lechal asado en horno de Lena, ensalada de cogollos y cebolla. Almost every table in the restaurant had a cochinillo on it. Our wine was a 2009 crianza Vina Pedrosa. Dessert was canutillos.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The beginning of the Landa dates back to 1959. A little restaurant was opened 2 km outside Burgos where travellers used to refresh themselves on their journey along the road which, despite its faults, was then the main route linking the capital with the north of Spain. The commitment of the Landa family to the hotel business dates back to the beginning of the 20th century with the "Real Club de Puerta de Hierro" in Madrid and "La Perla" in San Sebastian, and later with "La Gran Taberna", also in Madrid. The Landa started out during hard times for the Spanish hotel business in non urban areas; the hotel, its various extensions, the tower, the pool, the square... Were incorporated later on, little by little. ... more   less
