We just stayed one night here on our way around Spain but the location is so fabulous you could use it as a relaxing base to retire to after sightseeing all day – Toledo certainly merits a day or two of exploring and is floodlit at night, making the view from the hotel terrace really stunning. We were a little apprehensive that there would be an event on at the hotel, as other reviews mentioned that Saturday nights could be noisy and it was a Saturday that we were there. However, although there was music all night from the bar nearby, it was quite faint and did not disturb us and there was no event happening at the hotel. Presumably there often is though as several couples were being shown around the place as a potential wedding venue.
The staff seemed very professional but the room information lost a bit in translation as it said there was a snack bar/café open all day, but in fact you could not get so much as a peanut after 4.00pm until the restaurant opened, which seems curiously un-Spanish. After a big parador breakfast that morning, we didn’t want lunch, just a snack, so we went to the Toledo parador nearby and had a snack on their terrace with an even more stunning view of the city. Back at the hotel, we chose to have tapas that evening, so I can’t comment on the quality of the main meals but the tapas were a mixed bunch. A platter of cold meats was fine, home-made croquettes were pretty good but the hotel speciality dish, described as being of potatoes, chorizo and egg (I was picturing one of those brown earthenware dishes full of tasty local produce) turned out to be chips, sprinkled with crumbled chorizo, wrapped in an egg-white omelette with the yolks in ceramic spoons on the side. Bizarre. Good bottle of local wine, though!
Breakfast was fine, though and the room was lovely – well designed, cool and spacious and with a sitting out area with that fabulous view – there’s a bit more greenery than in some of the photos on the website, so it looks a bit softer. This is a lovely place to stop, just don’t expect a gourmet meal. Having a drink looking at the floodlit view of Toledo is something special.
